I think I'm basing my idea of using red slime first because I truly believe it is Cyano.

I don't think it matters who is right or wrong what matters is giving him the best possible solution.

I wrote mine more to counter Randy's claims about it heh

Not that I'm seeking a public beating from my most revered chemist but its simply fun to make headway against the grain with this much anecdotal work, and watch rule breaking approaches take on mass.

Randy is one of the few people who I usually take what he says at face value. He understands these tanks on a molecular and chemical level that I just do not. Sometimes I have trouble keeping up with some of his articles!

I too read them nine times and retain as much as I can lol.

Why are you up this early.

Me because I'm old man who went to bed at nine last nite so why not get up at 6 to reef before even getting out of bed

I usually go to be anywhere between 11-1 and wake up between 7-9

looks like cyano to me. chemiclean and be done

Not sure why I thought it was called red slime remover...

When did you add them ? May be they need to get used to your tank before they start working on the sand . Choose the conch which working on the sand at lfs before take them home .

I have been battling with dinoflagellates and let me tell you exactly how I beat it do not keep your nitrates at 0 try and have a little nitrate,do not do a blackout doesn't work tried it, stop all water changes, do not dose anything at all but raise your ph a little, rinse all frozen food and make sure you are not giving the dinos anything to feed on at all and slowly they will go away, water changes and all in one dosing to maintain levels are the worst thing you can do. Also I switched off my bio pellet reactor and the reason for this is because my tank was so clean it's possible the bio pellets turn into a carbon source which the Dino can feed off! Good luck my dinos aren't completely gone but they are reduced to about 10 percent to off what they were and all my corals are starting to look happy again I still haven't done a water change and will not do one until nitrate or phosphate start creeping to much or when the dinos completely goes away
