@twilliard how often and how much should I do the water changes? As it stands now I haven't lost any sails just a little sluggish, I have lots of aptaisa 50-60 maybe more, I had 2 peppermint shrimp but have not seen them in a while.they kept them in check I was just wondering if maybe you had any advice or tips on how to get rid of them ?

Pick up a few Bergia Nudibranch, they'll rid your tank of the Aptaisa in no time

Sorry to hear that pokerdobe. I did my first water change last night. It wiped out most of the hydroids but like you, I have a few heads still poking out. I wonder if the fish fenbendazole is not as strong as the safe-guard de wormer. All of my snails and starfish survived the treatment. The only thing I lost was a small Xenia however I expected that. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have seen several instances where it had to be dosed twice. It is dependant on the state of hydroid extension.
If they are not out to eat they won't pick it up

Just wanted to post a follow up to my treatment. After two dosing my hydroids are gone. YAAAAAAAHOOOOOO!!!!! Only loses I had were a couple of snails, most lived, and a small frag of Xenia which is alright by me. Can't thank you enough twilliard.

I've read this a few times. Sorry, I just want to be clear. The in tank dose of 250mg Fish Bendazole is 1 mg per 10 gallons. Is that correct? I will dissolve one 250 mg package into fresh water and use 1 part of this solution per 10 gallons of tank water. Again, whole tank treatment, not a dip.

Next, I have not seen anemones, hairy mushrooms, Yuma mushrooms, and typical blue/red/green discosoma mushrooms mentioned. Is this treatment lethal for them? If so, I will not do this treatment.

Adding to the above - are these colonial hydroids? They are not bothering anything (that I can see) but they are spreading. The tube they are in is stiff but bendable, they retract when touched, and they have a brown/green hue to them in the right light.

Update: Per Todd via email on my question about safety of anemones, in tank dosage, and ID of colonial hydroids:

"You are correct about the hydroids. These are not as toxic as the digitates but do spread just as fast.
Yes 1mg is for 10g of volume. There is no harm to any of your listed anemones and mushrooms. Pay close attention to inverts and the posted corals as fenbendazole is detrimental to them."

I have been battling with colonial hydroids for a couple years in my 40br and just found this wonderful thread. I just ordered Fish Bendazole and need some clarification on dosage. I've read through everyone's dosage and it seems there are 2 different ones. I've seen 1.5mg/gal and 1.5mg/10 gal. Based on some of your results it looks like I would need to dose this.

50gal total volume x 1.5mg = 75mg of Fish Bendazole

I'm going to try some peppermint shrimp....and hope they eat them....if not this is my last option....they are multiplying way to fast.....are they harmful to fish? What is the real risk of leaving them in my tank....tank is on roughly day 215. So still a new tank....only live stock so far are inverts a frogspawn and some zoas as I had a firefish die and have been suspecting these things....can they kill fish?

These guys do not kill fish. Think along the lines as "small" food.

Yeah I have read all 26 pages...I will be reaching out if and when it comes time to do this method...been researching these things for months so glad I stumbled on this!!!!

Thanks so much .. Yeah I am very leary but if worse comes to worse I will be putting everything in a QT for a couple weeks while I do this ... only got some inverts zoas and a frogspawn spawn....I am mainly infested with the digitate kind...have seen the colonial ones but they were on a rock I could remove and I just chiseled them off and Rinsed...Haven't seen them since. But the long white fuzzy ones are everywhere even in my substrate...looking for better CUC at the moment. If that doesn't work this may be my only options ...it is good to now they don't kill fish....when people say things as general as "They have a nasty sting" hard to tell what that is in reference too but as I dive deeper into research seems as if the digitate are kind of just an annoying filter feeder...

You are correct they do pose a decent sting from the cnidocyte cells. Anything they can get their little hands on they will eat.
