So it's like 110 in California and my AC took a vacation a few hours ago. House is heating up fast and tank temp has started to creep up. I know I can't get an AC repair done tonight so will probably end up having to float ice bags for the tank while I drink 40 beers to try and calm my anger. Do you guys think I should just try and cool the return pump chamber so cool water flows in or try and just put bags in the DT? I'm a little nervous if these zip lock bags leak any melted ice water. Perhaps using the gel cold packs is a better option?

I would do the sump and I do not know if you have ro on hand to freeze. I am in Florida and had to do the same thing. Gallon size ziplocks with ro water so if a leak happened it would just be ro. Also be sure they stay upright in the tank so the bag does not open

Ok good idea, yes plenty ro

Turn lights off, aim a fan at the water surface.

Floating ice is what I'd do in a power outage.

With power, a fan does a lot via evaporative cooling.

Just be prepared with a lot of top off water!

Here's a waaaay out there, thinking outside the box, question: what's the temp of your tank water?

How close you guys think the water temp will mirror the air temp in the house?

Depends on so many factors.

I have a 65g open top tank with a led + t5 hybrid 8" off the water.

My office is 74* and my tank regularly goes up to 81 ish. The heater is set to 78.

Lights and pumps add a lot of ambient temperature.

I would just do air bubblers in the tank to keep the flow going and to add oxygen and maybe a frozen pack inside a ziplock bag to the dt..
