I got a rose bubble tip anemone last week and it found a little spot and now it moved toward the powerhead. I’m trying to avoid chopped up anemone. I know I could try and move it carefully but I don’t want to kill it. Does anyone have anemones and a wave maker without an anemone guard and have never had any issues? Are they absolutely necessary? This is the wave maker I have and I have found some guards.

They'll move as much as they want, then they'll find a nice place and stay there for a while and you think you're all good, and then it'll move again lol the best way to avoid anemone vs pump situations (I've found anyway) is to keep your rockwork away from the glass. In my experience, bubbletips avoid the substrate so if they don't have a way to get on the glass otherwise, they'll stick to the rocks

Given the right set of circumstances they never move. Mine haven't moved in over a year now. If constantly wandering, there's something wrong with the environment. That being said there is a period when first introduced they tend to move.

The problem with that is that the anemone will find a spot it likes but that spot might change once the powerhead is back on
Well the anemone died because it decided it likes my powerhead lol. I only had him for a week so he was finding his spot. So lesson learned I did get a guard and will probably get an isolation box then a new anemone.

If
I’m just going to order one and for now I’m turning my powerhead off so it can move away from it lol.
If you mess with the flow the more it will move. A mesh sock or panty hose rubber band around the ph will work till you get a nem guard.

I don’t have the anemone anymore but my guard is coming soon.

Yes, they are Absolutely necessary.
And if they end up in a powerhead you will nuke your tank. I love anemones but this is why I only added RFA s to mine.
"Will nuke your tank" is a bit much. They Can Nuke a tank. Unfortunately we see probably 10 anenome versus wavemaker threads a week here ( nem Always Loses)
I don't think one in 10 actually nukes the tank with proper action taken. Immediate water change and running high volume of carbon helps.

Where is the LOL here? You knew before it walked into it that you needed a guard.

You asked in the original post, likely because you had read it. It was needed.

Imo, "Lol" is a terrible reaction to " killed an animal in my care"

I dont think the "lol" here is meant to be literal. I'm a borderline millennial myself and some of these abbrevs have morphed far from their initial meaning by genZ and later gens, and is now a very context specific usage.

In this case lol is used in situations where the situation itself is either sad or unfortunate but the user wanted to be either cheered up, or used to break up the
awkwardness related to admitting that you did something wrong.

Its could also be expressed as "lols" or "lol" followed by "..."

For ex "I just failed the pop quiz, man I knew I should have studied lolz...". Or "I just broken up with my gf/bf... lol...sigh....."

Or maybe followed by :downcast-face-with-sweat::expressionless-face::rolleyes::confused:

Don't think OP meant "haha I just killed my fav nem"

Not that it like ther powerhead but it likely sought light why they often move upwards.
Too much light- they hide
Too little light- they climb
Too much flow- they move and even hide
Too little flow- they ball up or get stringy looking

WUT...?

I'm an '86 model with 3 teenagers. . .I speak the language.

"Well the anemone died because it decided it likes my powerhead lol"

The sentence proceeding lol, was intended as a joke. Lol follows jokes. I may need lessons in tact, not really in vernacular.

On Tuesday, OP knew the risks stating they would pull the power head offline. That clearly didn't happen. None of this makes me think it was an admission of doing anything wrong.

"Lol" has stopped only mean "something funny" a long time ago. There actually a lot of articles written about it. Just google "why people use lol when its sad"

Lol...

Jk.. lol.

I thought LOL meant lots of love. I had a friend whose aunt died and I messaged her with condolences followed by LOL (lots of love). I no longer attempt to abbreviate communications.
You Aren't the only one... My Brother signed all of his letters home in 2006 Iraq with LOL- Chris...

He also thought the urinal in some porto potties is a gear holder..... I found this out walking in on him in 29 palms (same battalion) with his helmet, gloves and Googles IN THE PEE TROUGH....
