How often do anemones move?

Just my two cents as a younger millennial - a lot of us are pretty bad at communication, and pretty much all of us seem to be bad at dealing with uncomfortable situations seriously. So, in my experience, we generally deal with those situations using off color humor (typically dark humor, like the “lol” above). Dkmoo’s explanation was pretty much spot on.

Anyway, more on topic, my condolences on the nem. As stated, lesson learned. Install the nem guard, move on, and keep learning (hopefully through less unpleasant means in the future). Happy reefing!

Yes, they are Absolutely necessary.

"Will nuke your tank" is a bit much. They Can Nuke a tank. Unfortunately we see probably 10 anenome versus wavemaker threads a week here ( nem Always Loses)
I don't think one in 10 actually nukes the tank with proper action taken. Immediate water change and running high volume of carbon helps.

Where is the LOL here? You knew before it walked into it that you needed a guard.

You asked in the original post, likely because you had read it. It was needed.

Imo, "Lol" is a terrible reaction to " killed an animal in my care"
I think they are fascinating but you reinforced my opinion when you said we see 10 nems versus powerheads a week. Not worth that chance to me but I still think they are beautiful to see in a tank.

You may have taken the wrong thing from that. Anenomes aren't the problem. More acros are posted RTN than nems by far. It's not properly having the tank Nem proofed. Wrasses swim their faces into powerheads constantly. Ideally, all powerheads would have guards. That just ain't going to happen, because you do decrease performance and increase load on the drive motor.

Anenomes are Fascinating. They are my single most favorite Marine animal. I watch mine all day. Add clowns, and the symbiotic relationship formed. There is an absolutely beautiful one that captivates everyone.

Nem proofing is cheap and easy.

I gotta check that out ! Sounds like popcorn and a movie material lol!!!
here you go - I found it. .17 pages. i tried to mediate with a few posts in the middle of it but it just got out of hand...

sry @AydenLincoln - we are off topic again =P

I stayed away from that one I Think ... LMK if I said something dumb..

I had a sabae anemone for several years, and it got stuck in the powerhead once. It was bad enough where I couldn't get it out. When it comes to nature, I try to be hands off where possible. It's easy to do too much and make the situation way worse. Anyway, it clearly wasn't dead, so I shut off the powerhead and let it be. Eventually, it worked itself out, spent a bunch of time healing, and found a nice place to live in the sand and it stayed there until I had to get rid of the tank due to a leak. I also put something over the powerhead to prevent it from happening again.

And as an aside, I had a moment a few days ago where I was "99% sure" a turbo snail had died. It wasn't moving, wasn't responding to touch, and was kind of hanging out of its shell. I decided to just watch closely and after two days, the snail was out and about chowing down on algae again.

Me too! Was it from iSeaLive? They have a little seahorse on the front of them. Because that’s where I got mine.

The term PHAT originates from the 1960's.
