The sentence proceeding lol, was intended as a joke. Lol follows jokes. I may need lessons in tact, not really in vernacular.

On Tuesday, OP knew the risks stating they would pull the power head offline. That clearly didn't happen. None of this makes me think it was an admission of doing anything wrong.

Umm no. It’s not that deep. Lol is a common thing used I use lol all the time. Lol is definitely used to lighten the mood and lol mean laugh out loud but has become different things for my generation (Gen Z/Millenials). I told a joke at a family dinner the other day. My Niece thought it was funny and actually said "LOL". I was like what just happened? Did you just replace laughter by saying "LOL"? It was creepy.

I dont think the "lol" here is meant to be literal. I'm a borderline millennial myself and some of these abbrevs have morphed far from their initial meaning by genZ and later gens, and is now a very context specific usage.

In this case lol is used in situations where the situation itself is either sad or unfortunate but the user wanted to be either cheered up, or used to break up the
awkwardness related to admitting that you did something wrong.

Its could also be expressed as "lols" or "lol" followed by "..."

For ex "I just failed the pop quiz, man I knew I should have studied lolz...". Or "I just broken up with my gf/bf... lol...sigh....."

Or maybe followed by

Don't think OP meant "haha I just killed my fav nem"
