Largest LFS near me in PA is shutting down as the governor ordered all non-essential businesses to close. In many areas it is coming.

I just got home from the LFS a few hours ago, got extra food and 2 part. Immediately thought of 3 more things I might need so I’m going back tomorrow...unless the power goes out my tank is getting a lot of tlc in the foreseeable future and will probably be better off than I will!

In addition to a full time high stress job, I am the primary care giver for an elderly parent. Time is my enemy so I plan and stock. I do not believe BRS, MD,SS, or other online retailers will close during the current problem but I am concerned with the logistics (supply chain) as more people will move to online buying. 2 &3 day shipping will move to 5-7 days or longer. Raw materials to make salt, additives and other essentials will be impacted due to logistics. So I plan accordingly.

But really, if you plan for the “what if” like a 50% WC then you should have enough on hand to cover 5 normal WCs. How often are we told to plan for the “what if” ????
This adds a wrinkle but nothing we can not power through.

Amazon has hired 100,000 temporary workers to handle surges in online orders.

CubsFan Day 1: got everything I need to take care of the tank for months.

CubsFan Day 2: should I harvest my clowns eggs? Or just eat my clowns. I do like sustainability, but I’m really hungry.

CubsFan Day 3: can we drink our tank water?!??!

CubsFan Day 4: {writhing on the bathroom floor, extra salty tears streaming from my face}

CubsFan Day 5: dead

Not the online retailers, but the shipping companies. I am sure UPS, and Fedex are prepping. (USPS can’t react fast.) Been in Supply Chain for many years and know desire to reality takes time. Been living this current dream for 2 months already. Will take a few weeks for the logistics to click.

I’m going to start buying all the rollermat fleece!

So I was just thinking if there is going to be so much downtime maybe some fellow reefers will start fragging some coral to pass the boredom. So if you over frag I'll certainly take that overstock of your hands;):p

In the case I referenced, it’s actually mostly folks in the distribution facilities. So warehousing more than transportation. Assuming the inventory is there, you’d be surprised how quickly that could help.

Anyhow, back to the original topic, anyone else buying a bit more?

No not really. I don't see the need to panic and stock up. This country will not come to a screeching halt as some people are making it sound like. Like someone else said when someone panics then others follow along. I never understood that.

I was pretty bummed as I was curious and intended to inquire more about the anecdotal evidence from a member that putting hands in the tank messed with alk consumption. I also thought with all the sanitizer use the PSA was helpful regardless. And not one virus mention in the whole thread.

Not sure. I thought that hand sanitizer one was pretty relevant. You could probably contact a moderator to inquire about what the technical difference is.

And this thread gets closed for helping people watch out for hand sanitizer and their tank. Doesn’t mention anything about covid. What gives? https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/hand-sanitizer-your-tank.698715/

After reading through that one, I see no reason close it at all. But what do I know. I'm not a mod. Just someone who is seriously considering renewing my membership;)

This 'world event' will affect lots of people for a long time. No sense in covering it up, imho.
