I was thing along the lines of stocking up on 6 months or so of pet supplies (including fish). Figure I’m going to use it anyway. If I kept a back stock it would prevent those last minute frantic store trips too

Making ro/di right now to keep a steady supply for the atos on my 2 tanks. I feel like I couldnt be more prepared for this than I am right now

However, I really hope none of this prep is needed and we all pull through this in good health with happy tanks.

I have a vacation/rental house in a much less populated area than where I live (downtown Chicago). I’m headed there for a while because I’m not allowed in my office anyway. I’ve topped off my ATO, cleaned my skimmer, fed my eel, set up the auto feeder, and will be watching the tank on camera/apex and praying for the best. If worse comes to worse, I’ll ask my neighbor to adjust something or make the two hour drive (if legally allowed). I do this all of the time, so I’m not too worried.

Really what you need for this is nothing more than what Reefers have been saying for years. Plan for a 50% water change in case of OOOOps, issue, etc. Plan for emergency measures on food, additives, etc. Nothing different than normal weather related delays. I keep 35 gals FW on reserve plus 20 gals in my holding tank. I have 250 gals total tank volume between my tanks. I have a 150 GPD RO/DI system. A bit skinny on reaction, but do-able. No panic, just planning!

Big FYI for those with only nanos who use store-bought distilled or RODI for water changes and top offs: Stores in my area (Pennsylvania) are either totally sold out of distilled OR limiting purchases to 4 gallons at a time. And I am NOT in a part of the state with any confirmed COVID cases, nearest one is over an hour away, people are simply panicking and buying stores out of anything they think is "vital." Which as I learned today includes buying my local Wegmans out of any and all salad dressing.....

I overfilled my ro/di bucket last night and woke up before sunrise to shut it off. Wasted a quart on the garage floor and that was the extent of that slip. Otherwise, I've got enough food in the freezer to last until The Lord returns.
What worries me is the irrational exuberance of the governor ordering healthy folk to panic and stay indoors while the flu season hits? Last year I had the flu but this year I'm getting the chills from "Pandemic!"

Too much mind control in all of this. Gives me the creeps seeing people buggin' out over a normal health threat.

Does anyone know if how or if this virus can hurt fishes? I feel like I need to make an appointment for a consultation with @Humblefish. Then I gotta talk with @revhtree to secure my soul. What will save the stock market?

Hey everyone we are going to allow this thread to continue. It has some useful info within in preparation for staying home for a while. While the staff made the decision not to allow threads about the virus itself we feel that this thread will be useful to the community as long as it stays on track! Thank you to those who have contributed thus far it’s great to see you all work together!

I also like to buy in bulk when there are sales, so I’m good on the supplies front. Now with the “extra time” thinking about what projects I can tackle, like running the lines under my house to the garage mixing station for the AWC system.

One question- there is an equally relevant to reefing, if not more, thread that was closed down recently. It had no real mention of the virus, just hand sanitizer and your tank. Very useful to the community.

It seems inconsistent to close that thread, while this one (about quarantine, preparing for an extended stay in ones home) can stay up. That thread also “has some useful info” and was 100% on track. Daniel@R2R even commented that it was a good reminder, before it was closed. Has there been a new discussion since that decision, and can that one can be reopened?

We are in mandatory shelter in place til at least April 7th. Financially I will start to feel the pain shortly. I have stopped water changes, cut my kalk usage to 1/2 and am feeding my tanks once per day instead of the 3 times a day I was doing before. I also started to sell some of my babies. I place them in a cup on my porch and fellow reefers PayPal me.

All good! We just want what is best for the community and we want all useful info out there, as you saw in @Daniel@R2R post this is affecting everyone in different ways and we are doing our best to accommodate everyone in during this somewhat chaotic and difficult time!

The important thing with this thread is to stay on track.
I haven’t prepared per say but rather assured i have essentials which I have already:
-110 gallons of RO WATER
- 3 buckets of tropic marin salt
- At least 18 varieties of frozen foods
- Media
- About a dozen issues of Coral magazine to read yet

I just got back from the store. We purchased 2 gallons of ice cream and window cleaner so I can clean the windows while I work at home and stay safe.

In 40 minutes my county goes into shelter until April 7th. We can only leave our homes to go to the hospital or the grocery store. My LFS closed early today so they could prep their own homes before I had a chance to go and get more mysis. All non-essential business are closed mandatory until April 7th and will most likely be increased longer. I’m really worried about what I’m going to do. I have enough frozen food for about a week and a half. Old pellets for maybe another week or two. My county has over 300 of the 400 cases currently in California.
I’m really feeling like an idiot for not taking this more seriously and stocking up on food and everything needed for all my animals.
Really stressed over here.
