If you had to replace your return pump tomorrow, what would you get?

Abyzz 400 never will need anything else

Agreed .... tank sizes and specifications are important here. I will definitely be watching!!! My current 90 has a pond pump. The sucker moves some water. That said, I am moving water from my garage, through the wall and up to my DT. The tank I'm building will be bigger with dual returns and all of the tech houses underneath. Noise and controllability will be an issue. I will absolutely be looking for a new return pump once the new tank arrives. TAKING NOTES>>>>

simplicity dc1600! same specs as my waveline... and they have a long pedigree of customer service(reef geek)

If you had to replace your return pump tomorrow, what would you get? Which one would be your choice for your reef and why? What are some important things to consider when choosing a return pump?

I do not have to replace one but if I did I would buy another Neptune Cor.

I own 2 x Cor 15's and 1 x Cor 20. The Cor 15's are each in their own energy bar and the Cor 20 is on a wall outlet outside the apex system. Cor 15's power 1 return and 1 skimmer. Cor 20 is on a secondary return. This way I get redundancy on energy bars, redundancy on return lines / pumps, and can remove the skimmer should any of the pumps go bad as they all use the same connection size and unions. I couldn't really ask for more and they are built like a truck.

Of course the 15's are only able to be run if you own the Apex ecosystem. The 20 doesn't require the apex though. If I was looking at pumps outside this ecosystem I'd probably save up for an abyzz. I would hate to divert my wine money but that is probably the only other pump I would consider but could not do any sort of redundancy up front. It would have to be over time due to budget constraints.

I got Maxspect Jump 8K several months ago for my new build, pretty happy with it. Really like the built in feed mode with different length option. If it have deal in coming black friday, I'll probably get another one as spare.

I have a Current USA eFLUX on my 225. I love it. Swapped out a Sicce because it was way too loud.

Personally I would just get the original point of sale out of closet and use it until I can replace it with a Sicce SDC. It is super quiet and unbelievably easy to clean and maintenance. Plus it's another thermometer in my tank.
I have the Sicce Syncra SDC and i love mine. No issues it just works and you dont have to mess with it. Quiet too. A bunch of different modes also.

Same thing I have now...a Jebao DCT-6000. In fact, I already have another one on-hand, but the original one is still going after 5 years.

I run dual COR20's, and also have 2 new spares on the shelf. if I could do it all over again and they would actually fit my Bashsea sump I would no Royal Exclusiv. The pump on my skimmer has done nothing but impress me

I prefer getting a spare of the same brand to make plumbing interchangeable. I personally have a waveline 4000 dc and a waveline 6000dc. Both are installed with independent plumbing. Only One is operational. I will operate both at lower flow if I am travelling for redundancy.

Just another Jebao (Dc-20000). Pushes a lot of water.
Three years running so far, for the price, I’ll just replace.
Good pumps and there cheap

Abyzz A400. Need the power to pump up from my basement and it is the only DC pump I would trust for the job!

I run two Cor-20 pumps, each with independent return plumbing, on my 150 gal DT. Yes, I'd buy them again. Run them each at less than 50% power to get 600gph total.

I don't know if you're considering re-doing your return plumbing, but I'd recommend adding a flow-meter and at least one union so that you can remove the return pump for cleaning/swapping/repairing. Having a flow-meter helps you know when the pump needs cleaning and that your flow is as-expected.

I have a Reeflo hammerhead / cuda gold and a second one as backup. If i was rich then an Abyzz would be my next pump.

Vectra pumps, I have a pair of S2's, dead silent, controllability and easy to clean. Would definitely buy again.

Tunze 1073.040. Since I run it and I have a new spare in a box its what I would use.

I second this. My current one has 10 years under the belt with 1 new impeller 2 years ago. Getting another for my new build and will retire current to backup status.

if money were no object? RD3 speedy prime Abyss A100.
