It does "Look" like a "Purple Monster"
Many SPS look similar as frags..
To, in the end call it a "Purple Monster" without liniage would be irresponsible. Alot of, "Well it looks like XXX so I'll call it/sell it as XXX" goes on in this hobby.

Its a very sweet Purple Validia.. Acropora sp.

The way it is growing I would say no. The polyp can be white or brown. Only time will tell though.

i'd have to disagree with the whole "bushy" thing..yes its true the original colony on Reeffarmers was bushy and close together but you can't compare every "PM" you see to the original.corals grow can grow differently under different lighting and flow conditions...

I just stated my opinion there has been many PM posted in this thread and non of them are think branchy like a 20k/30k loki like the pic he posted. Also like i stated before if you do not have linage and you are assuming that it went from fiji to tyree to your tank with a few people you dont know and will most likly never meet nor know, i know as a collecter i could not call it a tyree purple monster.

I bought it from Tina at wetthumbfrags from a frag swap. She said she didn't know what it was, she just got it "from her husband's collection".

The polyps are a light green.

I'm sorry to be neggitive nacy and stomp on your your party but i think it i took a frag from tyree himself and he said this looks like my purple monster here i still could not call it a tyree purple monster because he was not sure of it. You pay 75 dollars inch for a tyree purple monster not somthing that might be that was bought for twanty bills

got mine from an old school reefer from that other big forum(Louis Bui), if you've been around long enough you should know who he is.he's no longer in the hobby but is a friend of Tyree.

He has a starting point Tyree some missing tanks it has been on the way tina then him. Know if he bought it as a tyree purple monster or tina chimed and and could conferm it rather the say "snatched it from husbands frag tank" that would change everything he bought it from a credable source. But to simply say i bought it from some know who has a tyree purple monster and it some what looks like it.... Now thats a fine line... as a seller he can do what ever he/she wants if some one buys it under the impression its a tyree purple monster thats on the seller and buyer, but IMo no linage no name for me.

I saw it in person and after looking at the photos I would say that its a Purple Monster. And I dont know what the issue would be if he did sell a frag as a Purple Monster as long as it was not sold as Tyree Purple Monster. By putting "Tyree" on the coral it states that there is lineage.

looks like the real deal to me. I have it and it looks the same as frags that I have made...minus the red bugs!!! Lets recheck it in about a year and if it is nearly the same size...then it truly is a PM!

the only way to prove for sure is to let it touch a lineaged Tyree PM and see if there is warfare...lol

im really starting to hate this linage thing lol.... his frag looks identical to mine which has linage, but honestly he could say ya it does and who is gonna tell the difference?? linage or not it's a purple monster imo......how many other corals out there look that close???? how many corals out there have linage that people don't even know???
