Hello R2R!

So I have finally made the move from my FW Planted tanks to a reef tank. To say I am excited is an understatement.

I am planning on a predominately SPS tank with some zoas and a clam and a couple others unk at this time. I would love to have a single anemone, am currently researching this to see how feasible it is in just a 30g.

Okay, so my set up is as follows:

Tank - JBJ 30RL
Lights - Aquatic Life 24" 4-bulb light (ATI Blue+, Coral +, Purple+, Blue+)
Skimmer - Aquatic Max HOB 1
Chiller - Current 1/15th HP chiller
ATO - Tunze Osmolator nano 3152
RODI - Kent Maxima HI-S 60gpd w/ dual inline TDS meter
55g blue barrel to store RO
Salt - Tropic Marin Bio Actif
Pinpoint PH monitor
Eheim heater
MP10 :)

Current H2O parameters: (On my 5th week up, completed cycle early last week and cleaning crew added)

Temp - 77.2
SG - 1.025
PH - 8.0
Alk - 8.4
NO3 hit 0 so I'm backing off on N03 - PO4 -X, aiming for 1-2 ppm
PO4 also not detectable
CA 455
MG 1200 - Dosing Bio - Mag to get to 1300

I will be using Tropic Marin products for CA dosing, the Original Balling method. I also have Pro Coral k/A and Reef Actif which I will plan to dose once I introduce corals in the coming weeks.

I think that about covers where I am at right now. Oh, I use Red Sea Pro test kits.

Again, this is my first reef tank so please, any comments/suggestions are great appreciated.

Looks like you are off to a good start, guess you forgot to mention ecotech mp10 under your equipment list :p
I have the same tank, just slightly bigger. Most of my LPS and soft corals are doing well but didn't have much luck using led for sps. Best of luck with your set up, seen a lot of people using T5's for SPS, hope all goes well for you.

Wow, very clean tank. I plan on keeping my clean as well. What is your cleaning regiment?

My tank has only been running for about 2-3 months now and so far it stayed clean with no major issues. I am running pretty heavy on the mechanical side though. 2 reactors (Carbon & GFO) and also have one of the media basket filled with Matrix
One thing I always do that helps me keep my water pristine is to change filter floss 2-3 times a week. Hope this helps

I like them also it's not like we have tons of alternative with our AiO systems.
Those are midsize and I believe there's an option for the pump size, you will need the strongest one available (1200?) for bio pellets.

Cool, thanks for all the input!

Note: I am also running Matrix and Chemi Pure. I plan on replacing the Chemi Pure with an IM reactor running bio pellets and also add a purigen media bag. Hopefully that will work to keep things stable in the NO3/PO4 arena.

Made a trip to my lfs Vivid Aquariums today to make my first purchase!!! :) Picked up a couple LPS and zoas and a Fire shrimp. Placed an order for a Blue Dot Jawfish, should be able to pick him up on Monday.

LPS:
Aussie Gold Torch
Bicolor Hammer

Zoas:
Pink Zipper

Starburst
Armor of God
Vivid Space Jam

Do you like your Skimmer and ATO? I'm looking for a good skimmer and ATO for my tank. Unfortunately, I've stopped trusting online reviews and I've tried going straight to the source myself. Would love some feedback on your product!

ATO is great. Easy to setup, and works well.

The skimmer is really good. Pulls a lot of stuff out, which surprised me as my bio load was been very small. My biggest issue is with the micro bubbles being put into DT. They do sell a sponge filter to attach to the output to capture the bubbles, but that is just another nitrate farm IMO. Would need to be cleaned weekly. I'm still playing with it to fine tune. The current version has some upgraded components. All in all I think it is a really good skimmer for a 30g.
