Jeabo dc water pump

Many reports of Jebao widely exaggerating their flow ratings.
My Jebao DC 12000 is on setting 3 - which Eric claimed was 80% capacity. I have a 90g tank and a 40g sump.
IF the jebao chart is accurate, then pushing water to 5' is approx 9000 l/h and setting 3 = 80% of that which would put it at 7200l/h. I SERIOUSLY doubt I'm pushing ~7200 l/h into my 90g! So I agree that the exaggerated output ratings concern me. Mine also has a high pitched sound that makes it the loudest sound in an otherwise ALMOST silent tank (thank you herbie overflow).
I've been doing a lot of researching about pumps lately and what I'm finding is that people love their Jebao till they fail a year or so down the road. If you check the ratings on amazon, you'll see lots of 5 starts and lots of 1's. IF they were really as quiet as I had hoped and I could always be around to replace them when they die - then fine, it might be worth it. BUT when you are out of town on vaca and that thing dies? If that's a risk worth taking - take it. That is the reason I am looking to replace mine asap and it can be a temporary backup.

Hi,guys
I have 75 gallon tank, which better I purchase dct 6000 or 4000?
Pls help me.
Its better to get the larger, because you can run at a lower speed and always have the option to run more flow just incase. Also at a lower speed the pump is dead silent

This is true, but keep in mind that total developed head decreases with speed, so a larger pump running at a lower speed may not work, depending on individual system head requirements. Also, most pumps run at optimal efficiency around 45-70% of max flow, but I have not seen efficiency curves for the Jebao pump line.

Thanks sabellafella.

Ive always used the jecod/jebao returns and never had one fail on me but i usually switch them out every year and a half so i dont kno how they are long term. I currently have the 12000 for a 120g

None of my friends would consider them for a return pump! The reliability is still suspect. If you research various forums, there are a lot of records of these pumps failing. Is it good for the money. That is for you to decide. I guess you have to decide what your reef is worth to you. I am not a gambler when it comes to priceless corals so I'm not one to cheap out on equipment. But that is just my opinion. If i had to advise someone choosing a Jebao, I would tell them to choose the next size up and get 2! They may need that extra one, but I pray they will not. Or, simply get a Eheim, Fluval, Mag, Tunze or Sicce and at least feel more assured that it will still be running when you come home.

Just to share my bit. I had a jeabo D.C. 6000 that ran a 120 reef for about a year before I bought it from a friend and ran it on my 135 for 2 years. Tore down the tank and converted it to fresh water and it gave me one more year before it crapped out. To be fair though it was used and abused and the pump itself would still spin but if you stopped it or did feed mode you would have to spin the impeller to get it to start again. I've owned mag pumps that could survive a bazooka but were also loud as a car, and lifeguard quiet one 4000 that is silent but lacked in the output. There are a lot of things that go into choosing the right return pump.
