I've been hearing about a knock-off Jebao 'Jyre' (after Maxspect GYRE). It was supposed to make an appearance in November I think, but I haven't heard much about it since. Some people even said they saw it in person. Anyone got some info on it?

Good to see its actually official. Now just gotta wait for a US carrier and price!

That's ok. Not everyone is going to be excited about it.

Nothing new to see here. Innovation copied with no chance of suing them because their country doesn't care.

Agreed. However, I've been using the WP and RW series for a while now and haven't had any issues. Cant come anywhere near affording a Maxspect either.

What a biased and poorly written article this was. I am disappointed that Reef Builders will even publish something like this.

First off this quote is nothing but speculation. Reef Builders should hold off on comments like this until they at least get hands on experience with the Jebao.
If you think you’ll be getting a deal with a cut-throat priced Jecod Cross Flow Wave Pump, you can be guaranteed that Jebao cut every corner to make the Jecod Cross Flow as cheap as possible.

The cross flow probably uses as little material in its rotors as possible, the cheapest possible bearing material, the least amount of epoxy to seal the copper wires of the motor etc. And who you going to call when the Jecod Cross-Flow breaks down, or worse, has a breach of the motor potting which leeches copper into your reef aquarium?

2- I doubt the maxspect uses the finest products for the gyre. The internet is flooded with complaints the gyre, lots of them is due to maxspect cutting corners on magnets or propellers.

From what I see people are very happy with their Jebaos and have very few complaints. I can't say the same for the gyre.

3- The article talks about Jebao customer service. Hate to break it to the author but maxspects customer service sucks too.

This is nothing more then a smear article. I for one am waiting for the Jebao crossflow. I had the maxspect gyre and I ended up returning it. I am sure Jebao will do a better job. I have never been disappointed with a Jebao product. I can't say the same for maxspect.

They are likely built by the same company. I know the icecap battery and jabeo battery are the exact same item.

Hate to say it, but hey... I'm just a consumer. And the lowest price wins. I just cant justify $200+ for a powerhead.
IP theft is wrong, I hope Jebao has to stop selling them. I like lower prices but its not right not just take someone's idea and sell it as your own.

Bias through experience I guess is what you are referring to.

You have seen very few complaints about Jebaos? You must be looking with your blindfold on. Just because a lot of people like the Jebao doesn't mean you are getting a quality product. Heck the vast majority of people I know that own Jebao have already said they don't mind the regular replacement of their powerheads because they are still cheaper than the alternative. They have all accepted the fact that Jebao is inferior quality but choose to deal with it because of price. As far as your comment about Maxspect service that would be a fairly new one to me since most people with problems deal with the distributor CoralVue and never contact Maxspect. Maybe something has changed in the past few months.

What exactly is all of Jebao's history of introducing stolen IP would lead to believe they would introduce something better. That is a laugh unto itself. Go ahead and enjoy them but kid yourself, Jebao has proven that quality isn't exactly anything on their mind.

I do agree that the quality of Jebao is probably inferior, and I also agree that I would rather replace my powerheads on a yearly basis. But IME, I've had zero issues with any of their pumps. Just keep in mind everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no one is wrong.

It doesn't sound like they had any experience with the crossflow. I wouldn't call it bias by experience. The author was bashing the product without using it.

From what I see customers are more satisfied with Jebao the Maxspect. While Jebao might use cheap products so does Maxspect. Jebaos are pretty reliable.

I don't really care which product is better. the article was so poorly written and very speculative. if they tried the Jebao and then gave an honest review that's fine. Reef Builders should not be criticizing a product that they did not handle.

Let's examine why they are able to charge less...

What are their engineering costs? Minimal, just enough to make 3D models of the unit and copy the electronics
What is their cost to determine new designs to meet customer needs? Zero.
What are their costs to drive interest in this type of pump? Zero, done by Maxpect.

Jebao is being sued by for patent infringement. Buying their products in tantamount to supporting the theft of intellectual property for the gain of China.

EDIT: I admit to buying two of their pumps not knowing this. I intend to replace them when I can.
