Jebao 'Jyre'?

Let's examine why they are able to charge less...

What are their engineering costs? Minimal, just enough to make 3D models of the unit and copy the electronics
What is their cost to determine new designs to meet customer needs? Zero.
What are their costs to drive interest in this type of pump? Zero, done by Maxpect.

Jebao is being sued by for patent infringement. Buying their products in tantamount to supporting the theft of intellectual property for the gain of China.

EDIT: I admit to buying two of their pumps not knowing this. I intend to replace them when I can.

You do know that Maxspect is a Chinese company?

I love my gyre i also run a jabeo too but i change my pumps out 1nce a year, atleast the gyre comes with 2 extra pump heads so if the motor dont break im good to go, i also replace any equipment thats in water 1nce a year no matter what the price is, ive used jebao for so long nd still to this day but robbing that concept is just wrong, im sorry but 1 gyre that cost 220 would easyly replace 3 bs jabeos, nd 2 mp40s

From what I see customers are more satisfied with Jebao the Maxspect. While Jebao might use cheap products so does Maxspect. Jebaos are pretty reliable.
I install/maintain aquariums for a living. I've continuously seen poor results from both Jebao pumps and powerheads, have replaced no less than 30 in the past two years. When they're working I don't have much of an issue with them less the fact that they're not UL certified - I alert clients of this and note chance of shortages which could have disastrous results. I currently have 16 Maxspect Gyres in the field and we run 11 in the office. I've had one power supply burn out which was quickly taken care of. Now my first hand experience is obviously anecdotal, however I work with lots of pumps :)
Ummm isn't the maxspect gyre also made in China?
Yes. I think the point was directed towards intellectual property infringement rather than country of origin.

Indeed it was. Thank you. Innovation derived from hard work and ingenuity should be rewarded. I don't care where it comes from. Copying someone else's work for your own gain is wrong.

I suppose I should also mention my bias here... I am an engineer and I derive the income that supports my family through hard work to create something new and innovative. Someone copying my work is not flattery or just how the world works. It is theft and shouldn't be tolerated.

I buy stuff that last's I am not in the hobby for the short term. I have Tunze pumps I still use that are 30 years old. I don't like equipment that is not properly built as I do not like to waste money or live stock. I had to learn this over the last 52 years in the hobby. It was not and easy learn experience. I lost a few aquariums to stuck heaters and shocks from poorly built powerheads. I want sturdy well made and well backed by companies that can get me a repair part fast if I need one even on an older model piece of equipment. Love EcoTech stuff too Up-gradable now we are talking. Just upgraded my MP10's to quiet drive what a great update that I was able to do and not spend more money for all new equipment. We need to see more of this kind of equipment and not spend money on equipment that you use and throw away. Way to wasteful in the pocketbook and environment.

Tried jaebo power heads and none lasted more than 6 months. I tried a jaebo 12000 return pump and at least I got a year and a half before it failed. Still not long enough for the money spent. Perhaps these could be the source of tin in my tank on the last triton test. I also didn't realize these are not UL certified (a reefer here on r2r had a house fire a couple months ago and the source was a non UL certified piece of equipment)

i choose quality and reliability over stolen intellectual property.

Stealing is WRONG and buying something you know was stolen is also WRONG.

Perhaps the Jaebo fans were unaware of the unscrupulous nature of that company. now you've been informed to help you make better ethical descissions in your future purchases.

For the record, my experience with the max spect gyre isn't perfect either but I felt it proper to defend their rights of personal property.

Are you guys serious right now? This was a thread to get info on the release. Not to bash a product. I honestly don't care if you don't like it, and neither do the other thousands of people who will also buy it. Opinions are fine, but superiority BECAUSE of an opinion is not. You can keep that to yourself. Or start another thread, whatever floats your boat.

This conversation is still completely on subject. You want to talk about a product, we are talking about a product. If you have no issues buying counterfeit products, no one is stopping you. If you don't care what other people's opinions are, why come to a discussion forum and start a discussion on the subject? If you only want to express your own opinions without hearing those of others, I suggest looking to a different type of resource.

It is worth noting that none of the conversation here has been opinion based. In short, it has been based on experience and fact.

FACT: Jaebo's designs are copies of existing technologies without license.
FACT: Jaebo's equipment have short lifespans.
FACT: Jaebo is being sued for patent infringement
FACT: Theft if wrong.

I'm not sure where your argument lies.

I asked about the release of the product. And that was it. I'm going to leave it at that because there is no argument here. You're bashing the people that can't afford to spend that much on a powerhead and that's not cool. I understand your points and agree with them to a point. They're all mostly valid. But point blank. Can't afford it. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Firstly I don't think that maxspect 130 is too badly priced, now the vortech pumps are coming down. You know why? Because of similar options that are considerably less expensive. I personally understand the upset that comes from having so ething stolen from me, I've been robbed. In my opinion you folks that paid peak prices for the vortech pumps have been robbed and that's why you are upset. I have five (yes five) kids and my wife is still stay at home, I make about 40k a year and reef is my hobby. I think people like myself deserve an affordable option, don't hate.

That's a really flawed argument. That's akin to saying, "I can't afford a new TV so I'll buy it from the back of a truck for cash. I don't care if they stole it." This hobby isn't a cheap one, but there is a vibrant used equipment market and most any budget can be successful in this hobby. Heck, I've given people free equipment and received some as well. That said, none of these special pumps are required to have a nice tank. They are all extras and nice-to-haves.

Yes, true competition drives innovation and can cause downward pressure on prices. Maxspect releases a less expensive powerhead that people compare to Vortechs. The result, Vortechs become less expensive and Ecotech innovates more. Jaebo steals a design and the opposite is likely to occur. An affordable option doesn't have to be a stolen one.

Listen, do you guys ever buy macaroni and cheese? No? I do. Maybe I don't know who invented boxed macaroni and cheese, but I do know when I go to Walmart there are several options from Velveeta all the way to shoppers value and Kraft. Velveeta is obviously superior to many so they get that, 3.00 a box maybe. Then you have Kraft and shoppers value, noodles shaped the same, identical prep instructions and similar end result. If I buy shoppers value am I in fact stealing from Kraft?

Yes you did but than started of how wonderful Jabeo products work for you.
That said you engage yourself in a whole different direction.
It's just sad that this can happen and even worse that it can be released on the US market.
This is going a lot deeper than we think...........

Jabeo Manufacture plant?

If I buy shoppers value am I in fact stealing from Kraft?
Nope, you are not. There is no patent on macaroni and cheese (that I know of). There might be a trademark on a certain brand name though. You can't slap "Coca Cola" on the side of a can of RC. That example perhaps misses the mark. The Jaebo/Maxspect example here is more like knockoff designer handbags. Brands build a reputation based on design, functionality and quality. They are able to charge a premium for that. When a company copies a design, but uses inferior workmanship and materials it tarnishes the brand at the same time it is profiting from that brand's works. If someone sees just the Jaebo knockoff of the Maxspect pump and thinks the quality is crummy or buys one and it breaks they might tell someone that style of pump is bad. Now Maxspect's brand is tarnished unjustly and they've lost at least two customers.

The example you provided is more like the existence of multiple manufacturers of 4K TVs. They all use the same parts (more or less), but they've rightfully acquired the licenses to use them. They either buy the parts from the manufacturer or license the ability to make them. There will be models which have less bells and whistles that will cost less.

Really wanting to try this with a lower voltage power supply. The original gyre was just too much for my tank.

And another fact is I wouldn't want a electrical product in my home that isn't UL certified.
In a case of a fire your insurance company might not cover the damaged done.

Quote(
UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories, an organization that has been around for more than 100 years. If you visit the UL Web site at www.ul.com, you can find the following description:

"UL is a world leader in product safety testing and certification. For more than 100 years, manufacturers have had their merchandise evaluated and tested for safety risks by our independent, third-party safety certification organization. Last year alone, approximately 14 billion products with the UL Mark entered the global marketplace."
A good nine-word summary used by UL is, "A not-for-profit organization dedicated to public safety."

UL sets standards for different product categories and tests products to make sure they meet the standards. In this way, UL is similar to the CE marking organization. UL may also certify the installation of products in the field.

Underwriters, by the way, are insurers. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, "The word underwriter is said to have derived from the practice of having each risk taker write his name under the total amount of risk that he was willing to accept at a specified premium.)

Ppl here bashing a member or vendor if the buy a coral with a AEFW or any other pest on it but knowingly buy a product that isn't UL certified isn't much different to me.

Noticed the one and only Gyres in the tank??

This was a thread to get info on the release. Not to bash a product. I honestly don't care if you don't like it, and neither do the other thousands of people who will also buy it.

Lots of gyre fan boys who are ticked that they spent almost $300 on a product that will soon cost $120. I for one am looking foward to this product and any information people might have on it's release.

Lots of BS in this thread just like the article. Any sources for Jebao burning down a house or factory? Some of the claims that Jebaos never worm are also questionable.

We don't even know that there was any IP infringement. Did anyone here examine the product or blue prints?

I am waiting for any information relating to the release of the Jebao Cross-Flow. I will give it a try and I am confident I will be happy with it.

Gyre fan boys derail and flame away.
