Just a Rant about environment agency lovers

Let's be honest, this hobby isn't good for the environment in a lot of ways...shipping, energy, etc. It would be hypocritical to think any tank is environmentally friendly. There are just different degrees.
Yet - it is full of people who think that they are environmentalists or in some way protecting nature or better than the net person and their respective "environmentally" damaging hobby, practice or belief.

The glass houses when it comes to the topic are plenty. Everyone owns one and usually those that speak the loudest have the most transparent ones ;)

If the science today is as accurate as you believe, why do projections vary enormously? They are all experts with nothing except the truth before them. Why do the years change from 2030 to 2100 for the practical extinction of reefs in a few months? I'm don't with this thread. Believe anything fervently enough and always remember... there could obviously be some reason the experts got completely different calculations. They can't be wrong whoever they are. Think about that. It's doubtful you even know where the data came from and instead read the first sentence of the abstract in or out of context and believe it. Smart. Bye Bye.
If you don't understand that science (and predictions, projections, and long term outcomes) can change, then you don't understand science.

If you were staring at a burning building, and one fireman beside you said "I think the fire is starting to cool off, the building won't collapse for a couple hours" and another one replied "No, it's hotter than it looks, it will collapse soon", would their disagreement make you mistrust all firemen and would you question if the fire you are stating at is even real?

The whole "im done with this" speil is common in people who are in over their head, I don't blame you.

. Also over in the uk they are banning you from lifting pebbles from the coast lines if caught you go to court to get cash fine what a joke but fishing boats can destroy are fish and critters and rip up the sea bed .

Well, I have to say that fisherman in the USA are not pleased with regulations that limit them. Drive around Rockport Massachusetts, where it is (rightly so) against the law to remove granite cobbles from the shore (landscapers would strip it bare if not), and you see bumper stickers on fisherman pickup trucks bashing regulations they think are destroying their livelihood. In reality, their livelihoods would likely have disappeared already if not for the regulations, but limiting fish catch numbers and sizes and locations makes them catch less at the moment.

In any case, if half of the people don't like a regulation, and half do like it, then it is probably a good middle ground regulation. lol

Please don't insult me. You're making very bold assumptions and only making yourself look "smart"!

Yes, god forbid we try to make a small effort for a good reason. Better off to just pretend none of of it matters.

Your petty little "snipe" comments are Joe-Rogan fan level.. Ooooh, yes we all participate in society, therefor trying to do small things to improve the situation makes us all hypocrites guys!

You heard bean, y'all! If you drive a car, you may as well go start a forest fire, because caring now makes you a hypocrite! GOTCHA! Look, I used the glass house argument, my logic is superior!

For the record, I am a scientist, I don't believe regulations (governmental or otherwise) are inherently bad, and I understand climate change (no need to "believe" in it since it's a fact, not dogma).
Good to know!! What field, if I may ask? I too believe regulation is necessary, sometimes poorly executed;but necessary none the less. Everyone should agree that the climate is changing and humans are accelerating the process. But I believe science is fluid in nature, what was fact a hundred years ago(even 50) may be proven otherwise in the future. My understanding is that sience is the pursuit of the facts/truth, limited by current knowledge/ technology to prove it

We don't only outlaw common crimes. We outlaw any crimes.

Just because there are worse crimes (murdering people, killing whales, landfilling reefs) does not mean we should legalize smaller crimes (shoplifting, illegal pesticide use, taking protected corals from the sea).

I don't see anyone arguing this. What I see is people who dislike that science gets in the way of them enjoying their hobbies, so therefor, they suddenly become Ben Shapiro level of skeptic. We're all selfish, some just wear it as a badge of honour.

I can agree with this. My issue is when these regulations interfere with my way of life and don't actually solve the issue at hand. (I.e- ev's.As we have previously discussed)

I said nothing of the sort and did not snipe at anybody.

You asserted that anybody without a PHD is too dumb to consume, comment, assess or be critical of science and you waived off the fact that there is plenty of peer reviewed bad science out there that drives policy, public opinion and monetary flow.

You indicated that that this hobby is overall not good for the environment and I agreed. I added that was true and in fact, many of the participants are hypocritical in the fact that they are fast to attack others from their self-assigned infallible position.

Your comments are simple hyperbole and combined with your gifs and rhetoric are nothing more than back handed insults. Not conversation.

I don't know if this is projection or if you are just trying to strengthen your point, but nothing like that was said. What I said was there was no reason to take a random on the internet's opinion over thousands of scientists.

My gif was 100% justified, the comment you made was so bland and so general that it doesn't deserve a high effort response.

Someone misapplying a tool does not make the tool flawed.

No one is attacking anyone for being in the hobby. People are disagreeing on the ethics of aspects of the hobby. If you feel you are being attacked, you should look deeper at where that stems from.

"From their self assigned infallible position" lol the oldest tactic in the book. You projected that infallible quality on me, so I guess I should be saying thank you.

Which comments are hyperbole? Or is this just another generalized, drive by snipe?

You seem to be laser focused on making this personal, using terms like "too dumb" and "infallible".

We can all have different options and still be friendly to each other. We are all lovers of reefing on r2r and that counts
It's why going to the LFS is still great - talk reefing, no one brings up their personal politics. Forums like this are tough because they make you see posters you may generally enjoy make comments that just change your relationship with them for good.

It gives us all something too think about
It’s been a big debate but it got everyone wormed up . And yes I am guilty

Closing this one.
