Let QT begin!

I've started copper in the anthias tank. I'll raise it slow over a couple days. They are all fine. Justt double checking but there is 25gal water volume. That will be 50ml of coppersafe total??? Correct?

50mL would place 25 gals within therapeutic range (1.5 - 2.0 ppm) for Coppersafe.
Coppersafe recommended dosage (achieves 1.15 ppm) = 1.25mL/gal

Coppersafe dosage to achieve 1.5 ppm = 1.63mL/gal

Coppersafe dosage to achieve 1.75 ppm = 1.9mL/gal

Coppersafe dosage to achieve 2.0 ppm = 2.17mL/gal

Today's update- the powder brown is looking better and better. The white spots are almost completely gone. They have been in CP almost 2 weeks. I've started raising copper in the tank with anthias. It's my first time using coppersafe. I've always used cupramine in the past. I have to say the API test kit is horrible. Other than that everything is good

Today's update- the powder brown looks much much better. All the tangs are doing great.

I can not figure out this API copper test. I have 25 gal water volume. I've added 40ml of copper over the last 3-4 days. That should put me at therapeutic range. But the test kit is reading very high. Looks like 4ppm to me. Can some help with my math? Other than that the fish look good.

@Fishfinder You are a little high. Start doing very small water changes, and test your Cu level an hour or two afterwards.

My wife is an artist. I always ask her to check these "color tests". She says for us laymen, to squint your eyes a bit to do the comparison to the charts. I've tried it and it was better than my just starring at the colors endlessly. Hope this helps. Cheers!

+1 Women are also usually better at discerning slight differences in colors. We men need to learn to rely upon our women for certain things. ;)

Thanks for this thread fishfinder. I'm about to start QT as well so hopefully i can learn from your trial. So you have total of 3 tangs in the 50?

EDIT: following

so Using API test kits don't work with Cupramine?

No, because API is designed more to measure in the high range. With Cupramine, you must use Seachem or Salifert - those are low range copper test kits.

Today's update- all the fish are doing great. The PBT looks back to normal. No problems there. The anthias look good and eating like pigs. One anthia has been regularly scratching since the addition of copper. No external signs, I'll keep an eye on that.

Lesson 2: large tanks for QT require a lot of meds. Smaller tanks would have been nicer. 50 gals require a lot of meds

So this is the second day that the sailfin hasn't eaten anything. Three feedings a day. He looks completely normal. I don't know if he's tired of Qt or what. He hasn't had symptoms since day 1. So if he doesn't eat in the next couple days I'll move him to a non medicated observation tank. It'll be about 20 days in CP. I'll look him over really good the next 2 days for symptoms then move him.

Anthias are the same as always.... hungry

Today all the fish are looking great. Sailfin tang not eating though. Weird, he just abruptly stopped. Tangs have been about 20 days in CP. Anthias about a week in copper. No visual problems from anyone. Going good

Might wanna move the tang out of CP (and into a holding tank) if he doesn't resume eating soon. That happens sometimes with certain fish after 20-30 days in CP.

You mentioned maybe using a smaller tank next time. Would 29 gal be enough for a PBT?
