Let QT begin!

One more anthia dead when I got up this morning. Another just died. Only 2 left. They are breathing very rapidly, going to FW dip one of them. I think the copper was keeping some bad disease suppressed. As soon as I stopped copper it hit fast

Another loss. I got up this morning to find another anthia dead. Ive lost 6 in the 2-3 days. No visible symptoms on any of the fish. Just rapid breathing the day that they die. It started as soon as stopped copper. This has been a disaster. The only thing I could have done different is continue copper and hope the ones that stopped eating could last. This story did not end well.

The tangs are all great. Very happy and symptom free. I had good success with them. Fixed the Ich and bacterial infection. That was great outcome.

My experience is that the anthis don't like low salinity needs to be around 1.025

+1 Women are also usually better at discerning slight differences in colors. We men need to learn to rely upon our women for certain things. ;)

Made me think of this picture. I also get my fiancee to look st the color chart tests as a second opinion. Sometimes I just can't see a difference in the shades printed on the card let alone the test vial.

Glad your Tangs are doing well. Re-read the entire thread and am at a loss about the Anthias. Sad. Really sad. Do you feel they had velvet or ? What's your plan moving forward? I've got 3 fish in Qt right now about midway through Copper. I really appreciate your starting this thread.

I have no idea what happened. Whatever it was killed them all fast. The day after copper they started dying. I hope one of the experts chimes in. It could have been velvet but I saw no outward signs other than the fast breathing.

Just keep your copper going. I stopped early because 2 fish quit eating. Looking back maybe that was a bad idea, like @Humblefish said I should have moved them to a new tank. Lessons learned.

Oftentimes velvet dinospores will invade the gills and the fish dies due to asphyxiation before visible symptoms (white dots) can ever manifest on the skin. A FW dip and/or formalin bath will force some of the parasites to dislodge, but only prolonged exposure to either copper or CP in a QT can break the parasite's life cycle (on a fish.)

So are there certain fish that Copper or CP should be treated first vs. Prazi first to head off this kind of loss? Trying to develop best practices.

Velvet typically kills faster than flukes, so IMO all fish should probably be treated for parasites before worms. Unless you are seeing signs of flukes, turbellarians, etc. on the fish.

This is the conclusion of my Qt. I hope someone can learn from what I posted. The last anthia died today. Wiped out all 7 fish in that Qt. I can easily document another round if anyone is interested.

All the tangs look beautiful and got placed in their home. They are happy and hopefully have a long life ahead of them. Sorry about the blues.

QT can be a mixed bag sometimes, but still better than dumping sick fish into your DT.

Sorry for your losses @Fishfinder

Ugh, I'm sorry :( is it possible it was lurking in your DT? Did you have other fish before these? How long was your tank running, and did you use "live" rock and sand? Was there anything wet added (including CUC or corals) in the last 9ish weeks?

I don't know if it was in the DT or not. I went fallow for 78 days. I added some coral from a very reputable dealer last week.
