Both of my tanks use stealth heaters....haven't been a problem. So I read this today and got home to find my basement prop tank at 89 degrees. Holy cow! Since it is in the basement, I have not been able to get it ove 76 degrees. Something snapped! It must have read the recall posts.

Friend of mine just posted this on another forum....
I know this topic has been posted to death, but I thought I'd share my recent experience. And no this isn't a horror story of an exploding tank

I received an email this morning from Fosters telling me that my heater was recalled. Apparently all of the Stealth Pro heaters are now recalled. I had a purchased a 150w from them in September.

The problem I had was that this was heating my display tank and I really didn't have an acceptable backup. I was expecting to have to buy a new one, then deal with recall. But they were so great!

They sent me a new heater (Ehiem Jager) completely free of charge, even covered the difference in price between the 2, and when I get it - then I will send my recalled heater back. I thougth this was stand-out customer service and felt the need to share!

will fosters replace the heater even if it wasn't purchased from them?

i think i am going to trade mine in as well if not knowing my luck the things will blow up the day after the recall ends on me

Good decision! I just can't figure out how a manufacturer with a good rep(IMO) somehow missed how potentially dangerous these can be. I suppose it could have been the factory that actually makes them changed specs after the initial designs were approved... who knows.

Their heaters were manufactured in Italy before. Now they are manufactured in China.

Are you implying that China doesn't always make quality equipment??? I got taken to the woodshed one time on another forum one time for saying something similar and I was just joking around....

I have a 200 watt stealth I bought last year from Petsmart, I haven't had any issues with it. Now I'm concerned that I could be one of the unlucky ones and I'll come home to a dead tank or worse. Is there any official info available about these recalls? I want to bring mine back to the store where I got it, do I need the receipt for it in order to exchange it for one that won't blow up?

Michelle, just print this out and take it to your local store:

Marineland submersible heater recall

I just took the heater and this in. No box or receipt and they exchanged it no questions asked. FWIW, my heater was running for 3 months and had no issues, but I wasn't going t take that chance either.

Thank you. I'm going to pulling this heater asap. The last thing I need is to lose what I still have in my tank.:squigglemouth:

Nope, I was just messin with ya...;)

Actually what I said that got me in trouble with a few posters was "Well if its made in China, they probably call it crap" It was in referrence to what the Chinese call there good dishes(since we call ours China). I prolly shouldn't have said "crap" but thought the thread was just in good fun. I buy tons of stuff made there and have great respect for the Chinese people(not their gov). I guess I should have been a little more p.c. about it. :)

I never had a problem with mine but I traded both of them in. Just showed petsmart the email and they replaced it with what ever I want. Just had to pay the difference.

Just called my LFS and they wont take it back unless i have a reciep i bought it three months ago What should i do?

I contacted DFS and was hoping they had my old invoice on file.. no luck. They'll take it back but all I get is store credit plus I have to pay shipping
