Friend of mine just posted this on another forum....
I know this topic has been posted to death, but I thought I'd share my recent experience. And no this isn't a horror story of an exploding tank
I received an email this morning from Fosters telling me that my heater was recalled. Apparently all of the Stealth Pro heaters are now recalled. I had a purchased a 150w from them in September.
The problem I had was that this was heating my display tank and I really didn't have an acceptable backup. I was expecting to have to buy a new one, then deal with recall. But they were so great!
They sent me a new heater (Ehiem Jager) completely free of charge, even covered the difference in price between the 2, and when I get it - then I will send my recalled heater back. I thougth this was stand-out customer service and felt the need to share!
I doubt it since they may have to cover the cost of shipping(not sure it that can be charged back to the vendor). But Petco is taking them....will fosters replace the heater even if it wasn't purchased from them?
Good decision! I just can't figure out how a manufacturer with a good rep(IMO) somehow missed how potentially dangerous these can be. I suppose it could have been the factory that actually makes them changed specs after the initial designs were approved... who knows.i think i am going to trade mine in as well if not knowing my luck the things will blow up the day after the recall ends on me

Their heaters were manufactured in Italy before. Now they are manufactured in China.
Are you implying that China doesn't always make quality equipment??? I got taken to the woodshed one time on another forum one time for saying something similar and I was just joking around....
I have a 200 watt stealth I bought last year from Petsmart, I haven't had any issues with it. Now I'm concerned that I could be one of the unlucky ones and I'll come home to a dead tank or worse. Is there any official info available about these recalls? I want to bring mine back to the store where I got it, do I need the receipt for it in order to exchange it for one that won't blow up?
Nope, I was just messin with ya...Just stating some information surrounding the manufacturing of their heaters...you can imply what you want..... Looks like a duck, sounds like a duck..... :snicker:

Is this recall on all stealth heaters or just the stealth pro?
