Michigan reefers?

Not too picky
Tim from twisted reefer, mitch from bootleggers corals, Justin (I don't think he has a name for his booth), Jason from Mr frags.... those are the main sps guys on this side of the state. Mike from Dutch family is about to transfer in a huge sps set up. I do vend at some frag swaps which is why I know all these guys.

I'll have to get ahold of mike

GR area here as well - finally back to keeping a reef after 15 years out! I would be keen on having a real club type thing here on the west side, but may still not be quite ready to meet in person yet (COVID - small kids at home).

Anyway - following this thread!

Not sure why I haven't been getting notifications on this post. I'll host a gathering. I am sure that others posting here would as well. Let's make this happen.
Alright, how soon are we thinking? I can check with some my connections at the local shops and see if I can get one of them to host the first attempt. I'm guessing we are still less than a dozen at this point. I guess I need to watch these videos tonight.

I know Sunset Corals up in Linden would probably be willing to host a meeting. They have in the past for the Genesee County Aquarium Society while they were doing monthly meetings. They may be willing to at Blue Thumb as well up in Saginaw, for those willing to drive. Blue Thumb has a huge meeting room area as well, which could be really nice, and normally has awesome zoa and SPS frags very decently priced.

FWIW, I've gotten some really nice Acropora from the user PPI on the Michiganreefers.com forum. Otherwise I normally get them from AquaSD or Blue Thumb. I normally get frags at the various frag swaps/coral shows as well, but since coming to St Kitts for school, I haven't been in town for any of them, and the wifey doesn't like going without me.

Haha no idea as to when, but I am open for anyone anytime. Something is better than nothing. I only know a few local reefers. Obviously all will not be able to attend a gathering at any given time but I think that establishing something would be a benefit.

If you have connections with local shops than that will definitely be a huge plus that could be resourced.

I'm in the kzoo area. I usually have some little sps frags around for trade or purchase. Anyways down to shoot the breeze too. Just got started on reef moonshiners recently, so I spend a good deal of time on their FB group recently...
Cheers!

Clearly the more exposure this thread gets the more local reefers pop in. So we have a lot more local reefers than we may think.
Just take a trip to Roseville and you know there have to be a lot of reefers in that area. Heck, they have 4 saltwater stores, plus 2 petcos that carry saltwater within 10 minutes of each other. There have to be a lot of reefers down there to support that many stores.

I sopose that we are not so lucky in GR. Limited stores and a lot to be desired from what I have experienced. Hopefully that will change. I am glad that you have options.

Edit: That sounded negative. There are a few stand out locations that are Fantastic.

Honestly, most of them are hit or miss. I actually live north of Flint, but will drive the hour and a half to get to Stingray Bay. They have a great fish selection and healthy fish and corals (though coral selection is limited) and great prices. All the other stores there are more just to look, at least for me, and occasionally find a diamond in the rough (disease and high prices).

Moby-Dick Petstore in Waterford, Sunset Corals in Linden, and Blue Thumb in Saginaw are my other go to stores. Preuss is too expensive for livestock, and lately the selection has gone WAY down.

I was just going to say Preuss... but now... I guess use that as a reference for what we have available on the West side.

If you get the chance to take a day trip, it's worth leaving extra early and checking out all the stores in Roseville, then Moby-Dick Petstore, and then driving up to Sunset Corals and Blue Thumb, before going back across I-69, stop at Preuss, then head home. I've done it a few times.

Just bring a cooler.
