Michigan reefers?

Tim from twisted reefer, mitch from bootleggers corals, Justin (I don't think he has a name for his booth), Jason from Mr frags.... those are the main sps guys on this side of the state. Mike from Dutch family is about to transfer in a huge sps set up. I do vend at some frag swaps which is why I know all these guys.
Thanks, I'm new at sps, so I would be looking for some easier to keep acros.

I'll check these guys out. I need to get my tank back in order. Currently fighting dinos so adding anything doesn't make sense to me right now.

I know Sunset Corals up in Linden would probably be willing to host a meeting. They have in the past for the Genesee County Aquarium Society while they were doing monthly meetings. They may be willing to at Blue Thumb as well up in Saginaw, for those willing to drive. Blue Thumb has a huge meeting room area as well, which could be really nice, and normally has awesome zoa and SPS frags very decently priced.

Jason at BlueThumb has mentioned to me that he has been wanting to host a frag swap of some kind at their facility for some time now. I'm sure they would be more than willing and their building has plenty of room obviously.

Since this is a michigan forum. I have family in kazoo any good reefing shops in that area.

Not really, closest will be grand rapids. (Blue fish aquarium, vipets cutlerville, water colors aquarium gallery, vipets plainfield and Mike at Dutch family reef has a store and is generally open 10-2 on Saturdays but you can message him and set up an appointment too. There is a petco on alpine and one in muskegon. Beyond the shore is in the lakes mall in Norton shores.

It's nice that those places are welcoming to clubs. We were discussing grand rapids though, blue thumb is over 2 hours away and sunset is an hour and 50 minutes. I was thinking more so one of the GR local shops.

The frag swaps are great! Most of the vendors I mentioned will be at the Ann arbor swap. There is one in April in sterling heights as well.

From listening to a few videos and the first mentioned episode of rnn it sounds like maybe we just try to have a meet with the small group here. We could use that to determine if a club makes sense or if it makes more sense as an informal group?

As far as Blue Thumb and Sunset Corals goes, I think that would be for reefers in the Metro Detroit/Tri-Cities area, although I'm sure everyone would be more than welcome to attend :)

Thanks for the info

I go to Blue Fish in Grandville- really nice staff there- however their fish and coral just comes with tons of pests. They always have huge amounts of bubble algae and aiptasia on all their stuff- not to mention vermetid snails.

I also purchased Tropic Marin salt there recently- and it was a Turkey based one that is recalled. I asked them what I needed to do and they said I need to bring the old one back and swap it for something different or wait for the shipment to come in in a couple months. I mentioned that Tropic Marin said we don't need to return it- but the staff member said that is was the owner instructed to do. I didn't want to swap for anything different, and since the other shipment is too far out- I'll just keep using what I have.

So I'm curious to see what else is out there- a club sounds pretty interesting

Watercolors has said that they may be able to accommodate us! It would either be after 7 during the week or after 5 on Sunday. I guess you guys tell me what makes sense. Still checking on other options as well.

My vote is meeting during the week @ 7.

That was my vote too, I was thinking Thursday or Friday just based on how my weeks work out. Only those that respond get a vote considering they will be the most likely to show up.

Don't be fooled were all over. Im in thompsonville up near traverse city.
My parents live in Thompsonville. Probably ran into each other at Rosie's at some point.

What do people do at these meetings? I've never been to a saltwater aquarium meeting or club.

When I was Mtn. Biking everyday I would go to meetings. They basically had a topic and talk for 1/2. Then every would sit around and talk/drink.

I have a vote for Tuesday from Facebook as well. We are definitely leaning toward the week. I can do a Tuesday meeting so that works. I'm going to talk with the manager at vipets too just to have as many options as possible. I'm happy that our local shops have been supportive so far.

If you're not too far from kzoo, I have a good number of beginner sps I could hook you up with, cheap...

I could go for either with enough notice of the meetings. Looking forward to if this gains traction, just starting I will be doing lots of listening and learning!
