Hi I noticed my clowns fins are getting clear edges around them. Here are some pics, I also noticed a nic on my smaller clowns anal fin, I am not sure if it was there previously.

Could be fin rot (a bacterial infection) setting in. Being these are hardy clownfish, I would first try soaking their food in vitamin supplements (exs. Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem) before taking more aggressive action like treating with an antibiotic.

Dang u have sumthin going on ur shrimp now ur fish wish I could help ur tank looks fairly new bud how old is it

It's like 2 months by now it was cycled and everything I read up that the clear edged fins means there growing but it also could be a result in stress and it will pass or fin rot one of those three. I think my tank is doing okay. I really think my shrimp died because of stress but yea. My first tank so it's not going to be perfect. But my parameters are all zero so I really think it's mostly stress and a weakened immune system that are catching my critters. Also my hermit crabs are doing fine. Maybe they are so stressed because of water temp changing quickly....it's been fluctuating between 74-78. I thought it didn't matter really but now that I think of it it might be a problem...might invest in a chiller so I can have the tank at a constant temp all the time. Also might be my lfs. But I am not sure if that's the problem so really anything could help. @mr fixit If you really wish to help you could pm me.

also humble is it okay to do that in the dt??

So over time my clowns fin rot has gotten a little worse. I noticed the fin rot seemed to be looking better than the next day it was worse the nick in the little guy was a little bigger. Currently the little guy from what I can see has clear edges around his pectoral fins, a small tiny whole in the middle of one of his pectoral fins, a nick on the anal fin as well as clear edging, and edging around his caudal fin. For the larger guy he has almost no noticeable changes in him just a little clear edging. I have been treating them with selecon for the past few days how long will this take? And if I need to put them in QT when should I do it? (Getting a QT for Christmas) will Christmas be too late? If you would like picture let me know I can try and take some. Thanks!!!!

Post another pickk lets see

That's the bigger dude you can see the white edging

This is the smaller dude he's in the cave so it's hard to get a picture. But you can see the nick on his anal and secondary dorsal fin. Althing you can't see is the nick on his pectoral fin and the edging on the pectorals.

I will keep my eye out and try to get a better one

It doesnt look like fin rot it looks to be your females bein a jerk lolol, first picks u posted were 2 weeks ago if it was anytype of a bacterial/fungas it wouldve ben really obvious by now

Thanks @Sabellafella I mean I thought that could be a possibility, it would explain the nick going away then coming back. And I really could think that shes being a jerk because first they aren't hosting together if he comes near her she tail pushes him away and if he doesn't turn around and start swimming away she start biting him. I was told this is normal clown behavior but I would think they would host together at least. Also they are always on opposite sides of the tank. The female has claimed certain areas of the tank that the male dare not go near. Also when the lights are off they do sleep in the same area touching each other. Is all this normal or not? Also what do I do since shes being a jerk?

And why is their fins clear edged? The female also has a small nick. And I think I cant see the nicks on the male just as clear skin not actually punctured or torn. How could the female do this? The clear edging is around both caudal fins too.

I still want to be sure it isn't fin rot going unnoticed. Any other imputs?

Always good to be cautious give it some time theyll be best mates sooner or later lol but yea there maroon type clowns im guessing and sometimes they can be really really nasty, all of my clowns have the clear outlining on there fins, there obviously growing because there all still babys but not sure if its new growth or its just how they are

Yea they are maroons adolescent ones since they don't have yellow stripes yet. I feel bad for my little guy :( I will keep feeding them the selecon it can't do any harm. I read up that the edging happens as they grow but I read otherwise as well.

That's not fin not. Either the clowns are fighting, or you have a crab or something in there nipping at their fins.

Ooh sweet that makes me really happy :D Thanks guys <3 But now I need to find the culprit. My hermits have been acting weird. They have been laying on their back either inside their shell or nibbling on a piece of crushed coral. I read that a fish might be nibbling at them so they are retreating to the safety of their shell. Also I have noticed my female clown being a dick to them and whenever they are in one of her "areas" then she will tail flap them not letting them come out of their shell. I read fish might get moody because of changing their food. The female doesn't like the selecon that much. I am thinking its the female clown but still could be the hermits. What do you guys think??? Thanks so much again!! Such a big relief it isn't rot.

Edit: Just looked over my clown is swimming over my hermit. This hermit looks like hes on a roller coster and his legs are all out and hes not touching the hermit.

Female may still be asserting herself on the poor little guy. My skunks have been together 2 years and she will still beat the heck out of him sometimes. My percs and ocellaris are better to each other in general. My clarkiis are still babes, so not sure yet with them.

If you are having problems with inverts, it may be acclimation. I get lazy sometimes with inverts and always end up losing them. They should be drip acclimated too over an hour or so.

No they were introduced with the fish just for the past week they have been like this.

Looks like my clowns.... they have been sorting out the who is the boss battle for over a year

Fairly small that's them right there three of them clumped up acting normal rn.
I think they have been acting weird because the clown might be nibbling at them, shes not a nice gal.
