My clowns rotting?

No they don't I am a new reefer haven't even had my first coral yet. I was planning on getting coral and was looking at anemones but I don't think it would be good for my first coral. I was looking at toadstool. I have a recent thread on adding my first coral. But yea I was thinking that coral might make them a little more happy.

I have two clown tanks---Ocellaris pair in one and Gold Stripe Maroons in the other. They both have their anemones and spend 90% of their time in or right next to them. Most people find that the Bubble Tip Anemone is the easiest to maintain and Clowns love them. May reduce their aggression levels as well. Or at least as long as no one screws with their anemones.

Back when I had a 30g tank, I had a maroon that kicked the crap out of every fish I had in there. The weird thing is, it only happened when I wasnt looking b/c I never saw fish get picked on. But one by one, they would get sick and die. Everyone but the obvious suspect. One night, I ducked out of sight and watched. Sure enough, the little murderer started doing her thing. I sadly gave the clown away and the deaths stopped. Maroons are beautiful IMO but I won't keep one as a result of my experience. Not even in my 90g. That's why I chose an ocellaris. Nothing is certain in this hobby but if you want a "nice" clown, I would go w/Ocellaris, pink or orange skunks, or percula. You could also go with a mated pair. My friend successfully keeps fish w/a big maroon in his 50g corner tank but after my experience, I dont think it's worth the risk.
And for the record, PITA means Pain In The... :)

Thanks good to hear other peoples experiences. I just don't know what to do.
If you are not looking to raise Clowns, you don't need a pair. You could always take the larger one back and keep the smaller as that one would almost surely be a male. If there are no other clowns in the tank, it should stay a male. Just remember that you can't mix and match with Maroons. If you have a Maroon you cannot add a different species of clown.

I think I will keep them both see what happens add some corals see how they react to fish I will keep this thread updated to what I notice thanks again all its really appreciated so thankful for r2r and the members.
Only issue might be I might have purchased the wrong light for corals. Current USA orbit 18 watts that's too little for coral correct? Tanks a 15 gal.

Just do your research as you go and you'll be fine. Good Luck.

How large is your tank? Dont be in a hurry. You're tank is only 2 months old? That's nothing. There's a lot to learn and it's quite expensive and frustrating if you rush things. My current tank has been up for a year and I still haven't finished populating it - intentionally.
I think getting a BTA would help w/a maroon since it's their preferred anem in the wild. But I wouldnt get one till you know your tank is stable, has the right amount of lighting, temp swing issue is resolved. 4 degrees is a lot to keep happening regularly. My Apex controller keeps my tank's temp within 0.4 degrees.

Okay thanks yea I will definitely take my time... And tanks older than 2 months I think 3 I am not sure to be honest but yea it's a fairly new tank. Still a lot to do and a lot to learn. I think the problem with the temp swing is the room temp swings a lot making the water swing. The room it is in is where the ac in the house is the strongest and on warm days gets really hot in the house so family members will turn on the ac and then the room gets colder but not completely sure.

I know it's tempting, and it will calm your maroon, but hold off on getting an anemone, your tank is too new. I rushed to get a carpet anemone for my maroon (which never hosted to it btw), and the nem ended up melting. I waited a few more months, things stabilized more, then I got a bubble-tip anemone instead, and this time the nem flourished and the clown hosted immediately. They've been a happy couple ever since, and she only hassles other tankmates if they come next to her nem. It's a very peaceful tank now. Nevertheless, the point is, your tank is too new for a nem. It's a good thing to get, but take it slow.

It's like 2 months by now it was cycled and everything I read up that the clear edged fins means there growing but it also could be a result in stress and it will pass or fin rot one of those three. I think my tank is doing okay. I really think my shrimp died because of stress but yea. My first tank so it's not going to be perfect. But my parameters are all zero so I really think it's mostly stress and a weakened immune system that are catching my critters. Also my hermit crabs are doing fine. Maybe they are so stressed because of water temp changing quickly....it's been fluctuating between 74-78. I thought it didn't matter really but now that I think of it it might be a problem...might invest in a chiller so I can have the tank at a constant temp all the time. Also might be my lfs. But I am not sure if that's the problem so really anything could help. @mr fixit If you really wish to help you could pm me.

also humble is it okay to do that in the dt??
If your top temp is 78, don't waste your money on a chiller, get a heater to stabilize it.

Okay cool cool thanks guys I have a heater in the tank already for the past couple of days it's been fluctuating from 77.77 to 76.6 I have it set on my heater around 77

So here's the deal non of my hermits are going to the right side of my tank. My bigger clown makes sure no one goes near her area which is about 1/3 of the tank. The only ones allowed are the snails. Pretty sure shes been messing with the sand. When I put my hand in her area she will tail flap me. Shes a real bugger. When I want to add a new fish would the best thing to do is toss her in QT add the new fish then put her back in? Or should I maybe rearrange the aqua scape after putting her in QT. Is it possible to move the rocks or will it stir up the sand and cause not so good things. Also my tank has been varrying from 76.6-77 Fahrenheit

You can try removing her for a time when adding new fish and moving the rocks around, but with maroon clowns I think it's still a risk. It's worth a try though

Came back from school today and this is what I saw for the little guy... a chunk from his pectoral fin gone........this female clown is nasty.

I am thinking the female came over today and tried taking his cave and he stood to fight but lost....let me explain so the female "owns" about 1/3 of the tank. She use to own the cave until she kind of left it then the little guy took it over. And I think today the female attacked him to claim the area. Now I linked a picture of my tank... (I used my nice camera for these ones)

Red area= Female zone
The red blob is the female favorite place also where the two clowns sleep together
Green= Male zone
Now I think the female took over the cave zone because now she "owns" it too
The little male is now only limited to the filter part of the tank poor guy :(

And the last photo is of the big female under the cave messing with the hermits

I'm gonna be honest with you; I'd get rid of both of 'em. :p And I had a pair of Maroons for 6-7 years until just recently. Couldn't take it anymore.

I think I will take them back I don't want to add another fish just for it to be beaten to death by clowns...

I'm not sure when I should take them back because if I take them back now I can't put new fish in because I don't have a QT setup yet and not having fish in the tank will bring down the bio load. Or should I jsut toss new ones without QT. (I did that with my clowns didn't know what a QT was before hand)
