New Mag

Any deflation cycles happening?
None that I’ve seen, but the mouth is still open a bit more than comfort.
Started day 7 treatment at 8 pm
This is when I was starting the water change and had the pump off

And this is after the water change

Now the question is do I continue to treat it with Cipro until the mouth closes up more and stays completely inflated or do I go to just do water changes with no Cipro and see how it reacts?

@JonezNReef I'm defintely no expert and I'll keep that honor to @OrionN and @Nemguy123 , but I would have it under observation for at least two more days. First day with 50% wc with display water, if not issues the next day then I would do another wc at 100% display tank and observe. My new mag is currently under a no cipro observation period and if things continue to go well I'll begin to introduce display tank water to the hospital tank just for extra measure.

Here’s the Mag just before water change

And here it is after starting day 8 treatment at 8pm

The Mags mouth is still open and still getting discharge. Also it doesn’t fully deflate but also doesn’t fully inflate.

Day 9 treatment began at 8pm. Mag had a long strand of discharge coming from it’s mouth but didn’t want to rip it out since the strand was connected inside its body

Here it is 12 hours into day 9 and was able to get part of the strand out late last night and the mouth was more closed this morning

Also I switched from the little light that come with a 10g lid and upped them to a higher wattage light and the Mag seems to respond to it better. Also when I moved the Mag last night I noticed that the tentacles had a little bit of stock to them

Day 10 Cipro Treatment started at 9pm. Mag is still spitting out discharge. Also it’s tentacles have been more inflated and moving with the water but it seems like the over all mass has went down. Also it doesn’t seem to ever fully close its mouth yet.

@Nemguy123 and @OrionN would you all suggest the treatment continue or give it time to recoup?
I was wondering this as well. In OrionNs write up it said to not stop treatment too early as he had lost some because of that but didn’t state anywhere what may be treating too long.
I will say that today when I got home the Mag was swaying in the current and it’s mouth was the least open it’s been

The last pic looks great! When I treated mine it looked the same for the last few days of treatment and miraculously on the 7th day it had a closed mouth and looked great. I can definitely see a long treatment being counter productive, especially if it begins to affect the zooxanthellae population. Maybe a trail period of DT water might be beneficial at this point.

Agreed. I will do a 50% water change with DT water and see how things go. If good then tomorrow I will do a 100% water change with DT water or if it responds bad then do a 100% water change with new water and begin treatment again

I had one that didn’t look 100% after 10 days of cipro. I put it in my DT and it continued to deflate and show a gaping mouth every day for about 2 months. Then one day it was fine and has been good for a few months now. If the cipro hasn’t killed the bacteria after 10 days it’s not going to. I think sometimes they just take a while to acclimate to tank conditions.

Last night I did a 50% water change with fresh salt water. I didn't add any Cipro and will be observing the Mag and doing 50% water changes with fresh salt water for the next few days.
It still has a small spot on the column that tissue pokes out of and looks more bleached than the rest but when o tried to get a picture of the damage it pulls the tissue in.
In this picture you can see the part that is still injured that it is favoring

and here it is this morning about 12 hours into the first day with no Cipro

@JonezNReef What light are you using for the hosiptal tank (HT)? Just shooting in the dark here but...I wonder if the PAR levels are high enough in the HT for photosynthesis and the protruding mouth may be a function of trying to absorb nutrients in the water? I did notice that my mags mouth was like periodically when it came out of treatment and into the display tank but went away after feeding it small (dime-size) pieces of uncooked shrimp.

Just a cheap 60 watt no name LED fixture. I just put it over the tank a couple of days ago and noticed that it inflated the tentacles more and seemed better. Last night I also turned the pumps off and dropped a pellet of food on each side of the Mag. It definitely responded and tried to move the food to its mouth but I cleaned the pellets off it as I was getting ready for a water change. Today I will try and feed the Mag a small piece of shrimp or mysis to see if it eats before I do a water change. Also I have a HOB skimmer but the pump isn't working from being in storage for so long but I went ahead and ordered a new pump but not sure that it will be here in time to use this go around but will have it for the future.

Thanks for your input and responses too. Helps having meetings of the minds when you are trying to do something like this and you have limited information on the task at hand

No problem. Sometimes the blind lead the blind!! I would consider looking to getting a better light if you think it needs to be in the HT tank longer for observation though.

At the moment it is responding well to this light and opened up and inflated it tentacles instantly this morning when I turned the lights on. I am saving up for a light for the HT for future anemones just to be safe.
Here is a picture of it first thing before I turned the lights on

Looking really good! IMO I think a puffy mouth is really just a sign of it being “hungry” and is very different than a gaping mouth which is something to be worried about. Before you move it to the display you may want to try to feed it something meaty, like a small (dime-size) piece of fresh de-shelled uncooked shrimp to test things out before the Big Move! I always make sure my shrimp is fresh since a spoiled piece could put you right back at square-one in regards to treatment. I’ve tried pellets but my nems never go for them and just spit them out.
