I have heard lots of mixed opinions on what size tank for a power blue. I have seen YouTube videos of a power plus in 90 gallon and that is perfect for them. I have also heard from local fish store 200+ and other fish store 125 gallons. What do you think?

Ive got a small one (three inches) in my 125 six foot. I would say no as the length is important for tangs, especially this one. My girl Flo is super active, zipping in and out of the rocks and zooming the tank with my purple at top speed. Shes also got some of that powder blue aggression developing over space, so I would probably not put that particular one in a 90, might get super cranky from what Ive seen of mine and shes a juv for sure, Ive got some pictures of her zipping around

Good to know. Thanks for the help. Sure is a pretty fish.

Technically you could, but it might not be a good idea. You would need to make a very open aquascape, install lots of powerheads for high/random flow, and drop the idea of adding any other large free-swimming fish. It also would need to be the very last fish in there. I'd personally stick to a yellow/tomini tang, but it could work if you're willing to plan the tank around the fish.

Yes I could see that, as the only tang maybe but this one gets 8-10 inches. Powders are also notorious for being hard to get eating if stressed and un happy in their home, saw this first hand with mine while in my QT tank

Edit: personally I wouldnt having this fish and watching her all day

I don’t have that much rock in the tank. I have one powerhead that I think provides good flow. What do you think?

Powder blue is one of the fastest growing tangs/fish ive seen in the hobby and even a 3" will be easy 6" in 3-4 months not to mention their nasty disposition. I would avoid it until you can house it into a minimum 125g, preferable 180g tank

Possibly, they can get about 12 inches so would need an upgrade down the road if you started with a baby

Hippo too will grow fairly quick but in a 90 g, should be ok. They get to typical 4.5 -6" captive size average. Been in the hobby 41 yrs now and never seen a 12". Even in Hawaii, some were maybe 7-8"

Ok that is good that they will not grow as big in captivity. I have one in quarantine and don’t want to sell it.

Fun fish. Be careful with how you scape rocks, these dudes love to squeeze in cracks they probably shouldnt. Mine got himself stuck multiple times lol

Yes I have seen that happen in the fish store and they have to pull them out. Do you think my scape is fine for this fish?
