Purple tank lateral line disease

Hi. I have a purple tank in qt for about 3 weeks now I just got him about 1.5 weeks ago on therapeutic levels of copper and he is starting to show signs of lateral line disease. He is eating and very active! Should I ween him of copper or leave him?

I have one that’s starting to show signs for no reason I can figure out after nearly a year, while the other purple in the tank has none... Hopefully someone can shed some light on it.

i have had tangs develop HLLE twice. One time it was from really high nitrates and the other time it was from carbon dust.

Carbon itslef doesnt cause it but if you are using cheap carbon..or its tumbling or rolling somewhere...then there is your answer to why.

It clogs the sensory pits and it starts. good nutrition and CLEAN water will cure it.

My advice, get some LRS food and a bottle of beta glucan capsules from amazon. sprinkle it on the food and feed them..

He had ich in my DT, over a month ago. I pulled all fish sout because I upgraded to a new tank. Once I had them out I started treatment

Don’t think there is any clear reason or reasons for hlle. Stray voltage, carbon, and poor diet are all thought to be reasons. Address these and you should see improvement. Would not think you will see improvement while treating with copper

I have read alot about people starting copper and getting HLLE and then taking them off and then doing fine. I dont know what to do. The water quality is fine. I do a 50%water change every 3 days and top off the difference in copper. I feed them 2 times a day and he eats like a pig.

If the fish doesn’t get a severe case of it, or grow to adulthood with it, it can be reversed.

HLLE isn't going to kill the fish, but crypto potentially will. I'd finish your ich treatment before considering pulling out the copper. Minor HLLE will heal.

My guess is that if the HLLE is only a month old, it's not too far gone. Post the photo though... GL!

Hlle is just about a week old.

If the fish has it a long time, or grows to adulthood with it, it can be stopped but the scar remains. It has to get real bad, and last a long time to leave scaring.
Don’t panic, stay the course. Install a ground probe and feed well.
