Purple tank lateral line disease

i have had tangs develop HLLE twice. One time it was from really high nitrates and the other time it was from carbon dust.

Carbon itslef doesnt cause it but if you are using cheap carbon..or its tumbling or rolling somewhere...then there is your answer to why.

It clogs the sensory pits and it starts. good nutrition and CLEAN water will cure it.

My advice, get some LRS food and a bottle of beta glucan capsules from amazon. sprinkle it on the food and feed them..
I have a 200 gallons sump and a reefer 525. I made the mistake of putting carbon on my return line when I first set up the tank, it pulverized like a pound of it. That was six months ago, but when I disturb the sump or the sand in the aquarium there is still black dust. Could be what’s causing mine, I just don’t know how to correct that problem.

Don’t know if it will collect all the dust but a diatom filter on the tank, then disturb the sand while it’s running would certainly help.
With the sump, get a shop vac and clean it up

If the fish has it a long time, or grows to adulthood with it, it can be stopped but the scar remains. It has to get real bad, and last a long time to leave scaring.
Don’t panic, stay the course. Install a ground probe and feed well.
This is him. Let me know what u think. Thanks

I'm also worried about his top fin. Its discolored also

Think you should make sure your copper levels are correct and keep them there and steady for the duration.
Hlle doesn’t look bad, at all

It’s caused by stress also and I see his top dorsal Fin is a little ragged, is there an aggression issue with another fish?

No agression blue face angel and a bimac anthias in the tank. All fish are eating liek pigs and being tame to eachother

Just my 2 cents, but my purple tang did the exact same thing in a 40gal quarantine tang with therapeutic copper. I finished the course and put into display tank and was gone in 2 weeks. I think it was also the size of the tank. 40gal not big enough. I have seen this in LFS also on purple tangs in small holding tanks. Just my opinion but I’m not an expert. Mine healed and is a beautiful fish! Good luck!

Thanks for

Thanks.did urs also have the discoloration on his top fin?

I don’t remember but it looks like the fin is slip a bit like it got bit? But overall mine was an awful pale color most of the time while in the small quarantine tank. And always hide. He was even alone and got HLLE. Same exact line on face. Watch the fins may need treatment for secondary infection. I’ve dealt with that a lot when my fish are stressed or got bit with agression. Turns into fin rot fast. I just lost a scopa last week that my Caribbean blue nipped on the fins and it turned to fin rot. :(
As long as no other infection you should be able to finish the copper and put into dt tank and it will be fine. I hope!
Here’s mine today showing off for me !

Increase vitamins. In the water, in the food and spend the money on Julian sprung seaweed until healing then go back to regular Nori.

Hello Sir, by the way do you have a yellow tang in your cube? I thought I saw that the other day?! I didn’t have anywhere to put my purple so I put him my 93 cube, I know it’s a little small for a tang but mine looks really healthy and seems happy! Swims in and out the rock structure picking on rocks and is active but not stressed! My whole rock structure is hallow in the inside. He’s with a tomini and tank is otherwise lightly stocked. Was a rescue tank for the tomini! Thank you!

I have a yellow tang but in a diff qt tank. I have ich in my system that I battering for a long time. I just got fed up and tore the tank down bleached everything and once I was ad it I upgraded my tank to a larger 1. So I out all my fish in small qt tanks and treating

I had this fish for 2 years had ick in DT tank with ick management that seemed to go away. I had to remove him from my 300gal tank because it was being picked on by the Caribbean blue and it wouldn’t come out of a cave. So we caught it and moved to 93 cube. I quarantined first with just cupermine 35 days because we knew it once had ick but no signs of ick or other disease when we moved it. It was just a precaution because the 93 tank was new and I didn’t want to add disease to it. I only prazi new arrivals I haven’t had. I think fordfish recommends at least 30 days copper.

Cool! So I'm going 2 do 15 days copper and 15 days prazi. Bu that time my tank should b cycled. I'm using red sea reef mature to cycle my tank. I have 4 at tanks at the moment. Got them in Petco for $1 a gallon sale
