Rock Anemones Rock

That's awsome. They do need to adjust to lights. It can be fun to get wild type ones as they will change color a lot under aquarium lights.

I'm thinking it could also be because I've had my lights turned down for acclimation. As the lights have gradually been getting turned up is when I've noticed the hints of purple.

My newest rock anemone addition. Picked it up from Cherry Corals live sale. My phone doesn't do the colors justice.

I picked up a 395nm led flashlight. Rock flowers go crazy for it. Same anemone, about 1 second apart, actinic 453nm light in the first one and just the addition of the 395nm flashlight in the second. Cell phone picture, no filters.

Apparently I have a problem child on my hands. My newest rock nem seems to have decided it doesn't want to be part of the "garden." It moved all the way from the front of the tank to the back. And I suspect it might have stung my new Duncan along the way. :(

I'd love to but I'm working with stock Biocube lighting. I will tell you that they are the brightest thing in my tank day and night. Here are a few pics from right now.

Love your porcelain crab. Does it always hang out with your rock nems? I got one a while back and the morning after I put it in I found bits and pieces of it laying around. I was hoping it had just molted and went into hiding but I've never seen any evidence of it in months. Not at night or even when feeding. I'm not sure what happened to the poor little guy.

So it happened. I have baby rock flower anemones. I believe I had one last week about friday and 3 more saturday night. I believe there are four in the photo. A white one at about 2:30 next to "moms" skirt. A red one just above it by an inch. A green one just above the red by 1/2 inch. I believe there is a second pop of green color again about 2:30 but just another 1/2 inch away from mom. I apologize for the quality, this is full zoom on an iPhone 6 from about 15" away.
They were extremely difficult to find and identify for many days as they settled into the gravel and only a tiny bit of colored tentacles show. I am able to find them in the dark with a 395nm UV flashlight, their color pop is a dead giveaway.

Yes, my porcelain crab is great. He moves back and forth between two of the rock nems in the front of the tank. He's molted a couple times. I always think he's died when I see it at first but I find him, shiny and white, on his nem. I did have my smallest nem get stung by a favia until it uprooted and moved all around the tank for a week. He finally disappeared (I think he melted).

Congratulations :)

Thank you. They are getting bigger and moving around. hard to keep track of.

When I first get new ones I try to spot feed directly almost daily. I have found this keeps them from shrinking up and wasting away. After a while this takes a toll on water quality so I cut back to about 1-2 times weekly direct feeding and try for once weekly reef frenzy for the whole tank. This seems to work for me.
I feed very finely diced raw shrimp and mysis alternating.

I am bumping this because I have questions. I see that most of you are keeping them directly on the sand. Does it hurt to have them actually on the rock? I am getting a few and would ideally like them covering the rock rather than just lining the bottom of it. (I know they will move if they are unhappy.) Along with that question, do they need to be at the bottom, or will middle work? (I have a JBJ Nano Intermediate)

Next question, what sort of flow seems to keep them happy?

That's where my garden is. I also have a deep tank. I have moved half mine to a 55 where they sit midway and they didnt bat an eye so to speak. They adapt to different lights well so the big thing is not to blow them away with flow.
