I was watching the news last night. They have been doing tests on wild fish fresh and saltwater. They are saying there is water companies releasing human waste into the water ways so they are trying to fine theses companies and stop it all together but this is not new it’s been happening for years in city’s and town areas . The best thing theses companies make a lot of profit and spend as little as possible. Anyway back to the fish they tested the fish and they were full of antidepressants also pain killers antibiotics and more . So as you all know I use nsw and I always say everything is happy in the tank no wonder there on antidepressants and pain killers. In one way if they stop putting this in the sea water I will have too send my fish to rehab lol . But really these companies need to sort them selves out . They only do things if someone names and shames them to the public. And our government are all talk and no action

Went down to the harbour yesterday and looking at some fishing boats the little orange one would be perfect for me if I had the money. But realistically I think I would sink it and the coast guard rescue would need too save me lol

Thank you for the invite. As a reef hobbiest for > 50 yrs, I am “old school”. Nutrient recycling using “dynamic equilibrium“ to maintain systems with help from janitors. By janitors, I mean everything bigger than bacteria.

Gut weed / Intestine shaped

A distinctive green algae that is in the family Ulvales. It is both a temperate and tropical species, abundant in different forms worldwide. This particular algae features long, slippery tubes or fingers rising from the center of the plant attached by a single holdfast. The Latin term "Enteromorpha" literally means intestine-shaped. It grows in large clumps at the low tide zone on mangrove roots and coarse substrate. Enteromorpha tolerates a wide range of salinities from 17 ppt. to 40 ppt. and is often found at the base of rivers and brackish water estuaries. Like other species of Ulva, it prefers cooler water temperatures in the aquarium and will not do well in temps over 80 degrees. Like other varieties, it’s very palatable to fish.

Your info is outstanding thanks for sharing .

That looks brilliant great rock and look what is growing over it . Brilliant
One thing that griefs me about the reef hobby community is the way some try to control everything with technology because they don’t understand biochemistry of reef ecosystems and the microbial loop which recycles nutrients into live food to feed hungry mouths.

Using dry sand with bottled bactetia does not make a reef ecosystem.

You and one of our members would get on grate with your thoughts on the modern hobby. @PaulB

I have known of Paul for more than 20 years. Last August, I visited him on Long Island.
I need not say anymore great your both in the group Thank you

@Paul B & I have similar views on gut cavity bacteria and natural immunity of fish. Stress is the major contributor of fish death to disease.

This interview was done one month before I visited Paul in August 2022.
