Any links? Where are these frag that he is getting paid to just tag? Are you sure it is not just another falsified name? I saw a guy on another forum trying to tag Mike Palettas name on his ugly acro. That's dishonest to me.

I think you are missing my point. What i am basically trying to say is true lineage deserves some extra $, because you know other reefers have had good experence with that exact coral. When you get one straight out of the ocean or unknown where-abouts then you run some kind of risk.

steve tyree is a business and businesses evolves and changes with its environment. why are you so stuck on the past with only aquacultured pieces from hobbyists having to be LE after all they were all cultured at one point. did tyree explain "le" as aquacultured and rare? just asking. can you cite some examples of some of your identical mari-cultured pieces? I've seen some mari-culturd corals come in in abundance for a short period and then disappear for many years.tired of reading these le bashing comments without any backing.

I'm sorry bro but what you wrote may have been true some 6-7 years ago but it's hardly the case now. There is seemingly a new "LE" every week, or so it seems...To me Tyree is no different than any other internet vendor out there who is just trying to make a buck. I would never buy anything from him lol. Just looking at his buy it now page is laughable; talk about boogers. Only thing different with him is for some reason he has people willing to send him their corals just so he can stamp his name on it, thus boosting the corals appeal and obv the price.

It's true now. Yeah there are many vendor that have tried to copy the fad. I refer to them as chop-n-shoppers. They import some colonies color them out frag em and sell em fast with a fancy name. But hey if they did a good job keeping the coral to it optimum husbandry, and the coral does well in others systems. Other people are going to see it, want it and the name becomes a legend. Then the name will have some substance behind it. Maricultured colony of millepora vs. a frag of reef raffs, I would take reef raffs.

I think we all just get angry because there are too many wanna-be's out there and they fake it and we all know it.

isnt that what jason fox, wwc, cc, and others do?

He used to be very well respected, but lately has been giving the "LE" tag to some corals that have only been in captivity for a few months. That is the point of this thread. "LE" used to mean something but some of the newer LE's are not much different than what you get from a mariculture transshipment.

As an owner of many classic Tyree LE corals I am pretty disappointed that he is so quick to pull out his "LE" stamp now.

He now gives the coral the LE name and doesn't even keep a piece for himself to grow out as a mother colony.

People send him frags, then it's Name and sell, name and sell. No more propagation.

I guess we all have our favorite player in the game. And things change. And LE has been just as much of a marketing gimmick at the name itself. But i am talking about the coral itself and how it should have more value than look-a-likes.

Agree with this. Further, and I've mentioned it before but there seems to be some sort of appeal people find with the name "Tyree." It's got a bit of a ring to it. Somehow i doubt there'd be the same cache if his name was say, Steve Johnson.

yeah, did it hold those colors for you up until you lost it? I saw your pics, your frag looked nice... I'm just going by what I've heard from OG reefers who I trust..Nothing more.

It held the color for 3-4 months until the day it peeled away.

agreed. its called brand equity. look it up and you'll discover how common it is.

Why is this such a touchy subject for people? It's a simple game of salesmanship and informed consumers. If you spend $10k on a frag of the latest and greatest only to find out you overspent, well, you should have done more homework before you opened your bottomless wallet.

Maybe it's because he was a well known author before he sold LE frags?

I guess i agree with that in the sense that if any of you had a coral i really wanted and you sold me a frag i would do you the honor of keeping your name on it just as i would of Steve Tyrees.

That's part of it. On that note a Julian Sprung LE doesn't quite have the same ring to it. The point was he's got some cache going with the name, what steezy would call brand equity. I think that's on the downward slope however because there's a lot of these threads lately about reeffarmers and the respect they've lost. For the record i have no problem with the name game or $$ coral, I simply agree that alot of people are getting taken by some run of the mill pieces stamped with his name lately.

Steve Tyree is cool in my book. I have him to thank for many of the sickest corals in my tank..
And every single one looks exactly what it's suppose to.. How can I complain.
But if anyone has bought some Tyree LE corals that's not as advertised please post your review and pics.. Otherwise this looks like a bashing to me..

Does anyone own a piece of this RR/Tyree LE sunset Mille?
Not one person on this thread owns the piece in the title, But a lot of you seem to know that this piece is a joke and overpriced, etc.. How?

I have to chuckle when I read about "lineage." I must admit I own several named pieces. The reason I own them is because I like the way the look- not their names. I couldn't care less if it was called the "Lysol" (a reference to Dave Chappele's show with Tyree and Lysol) limited edition coral. The bottom line with lineage is this- the ocean to someone's tank, then to other tanks and so on. No one person "owns" a coral. I am tempted to rename my pieces after I acquire them, as not to feed into the fury any further.

Do it. Rename them. If they look good i would want one. At the same time in your respect i would keep your name on them. Ta Da! Lineage.

like frick mentioned earlier, he wrote books on this hobby. he marketed some well known corals in the past. just saying his name carries weight for what he has contributed to this hobby. tyree is no different than every other vendor that slaps their brand on their corals. why all the tyree bashing? is he the only one selling high priced corals?

Bashing. A favorite buzzword that gets thrown around quite a bit whenever someone has some against the grain opinions. As someone mentioned earlier, how boring would the forum setting be if all anyone did was blindly high-five eachother without any skeptical analysis? I have (had?) no issue with Tyree. I have "his" rainbow Acro, lime in the sky, as well as a few others. My only feedback was agreeing with the OP that lately he seems to be just moving pieces out the door as fast as they came in.

Landlord posted that he has it at post #32.
