Does anyone own a piece of this RR/Tyree LE sunset Mille?
Not one person on this thread owns the piece in the title, But a lot of you seem to know that this piece is a joke and overpriced, etc.. How?

If you read the thread you would see that yes the one guy who does own it chimed in.

point well taken but tyree is like everybody else trying to remain competetive. I mentioned bashing because I always see these threads on tyree and not others so I had to jump in and give my .02 cents.

I think there is tyree "bashing" because honestly people expect a lot from him. He set the bar really high with his le corals and many people hold him in incredibly high regard. The issue that people are questioning is that the reason you bought his corals and paid a premium is because they were aquaculture which gave them a better chance at survival and they were going to hold third colors over time. Now he is putting le on wild caught pieces that have been in captivity for a short amount of time and have not been shown to hold thier colors. Also the fact that the same exact. Oral doubles in price the second he puts le on also annoys people.

Is this speculation? Is there any fact to back these claims up? Like pics of new Tyree LE corals that don't look anything like advertised? ( Regardless of name or price)
Also I think we can all agree that it doesn't matter what the name of a coral is as long as it looks good.
The name is a way to identify and track lineage. That's all, but what wrong with making that name sound cool? Nothing, IMO..

Steve Tyree is cool in my book. I have him to thank for many of the sickest corals in my tank..
And every single one looks exactly what it's suppose to.. How can I complain.
But if anyone has bought some Tyree LE corals that's not as advertised please post your review and pics.. Otherwise this looks like a bashing to me..
I think we would've still gotten access to the nice corals even if Tyree didn't brand them. If it's nice, you would still buy it, right? with or without Tyree branding :)

I would, but if someone willingly send it to him and he likes it enough to brand his name on and sell what's wrong with that?

If I had a really nice coral and send him a piece to brand to help me make mucho dollars from it, I would do it. :)

to be honest I find a lot more enjoyment in buying wild frags at the LFS and seeing what they turn into than dumping any money on so called LE and named corals

I actually enjoy this too but when I see a beautiful coral for sale LE or not, I will try to buy it..

I think I should start a brand. So, let the free frags shipped to me, err I mean evaluation pieces begin. If they look good, I will make up a fancy name for them, market and sell them, and laugh all the way to the bank. LOL. That said, there are plenty of places that overhype and overprice pieces. There is one here in Orlando that is notorious for it. They are tied in with Tyree and Fox, too.

Lol!

steve tyree is a business and businesses evolves and changes with its environment. why are you so stuck on the past with only aquacultured pieces from hobbyists having to be LE after all they were all cultured at one point. did tyree explain "le" as aquacultured and rare? just asking.

Yes, he used to explain how a coral gets the "LE" designation. It had to be proven to do well in captivity and maintain color/characteristics over multiple generations before getting the "LE" tag. I'll see if I can dig it up.

EDIT: I just looked and it appears like he changed the description on his website after he changed his business practices.

I'll post a pic of the coral so we can talk about it awesomeness :) Also in defense of Steve who is quite a nice fellow. You all need to understand the business climate in California when it comes to corals is pretty intense and to make a living at it in these times requires some changes in the way business is done. That isn't an excuse but I am not supporting myself on coral, I believe that he is. Another point to bring up is the CFM shows, they always seem to draw a great crowd and if we choose to go to them we have him to thank for putting that together. Whether or not we disagree or agree he is well engrained in the hobby. He is also a really thoughtful guy. Easy to talk with and someone I would surely share a beer with.

Here is the Reef Raft Sunset Mille. Again is it my favorite, nah. I got a few other 1st editions I like much better.

the old school corals yes.... but nowadays people friends/buisness partners bring stuff in "wild" and its tagged le before 30 days is up... just look at the quality of the corals today vs. the old school aquaculture ones from tyree.... look at the differences in the prices 6 years ago vs today.... this market changes daily and the old school tyree stuff "that meant something in my eyes" fetched as much as the new le tyree today....times have changed...

like frick mentioned earlier, he wrote books on this hobby. he marketed some well known corals in the past. just saying his name carries weight for what he has contributed to this hobby. tyree is no different than every other vendor that slaps their brand on their corals. why all the tyree bashing? is he the only one selling high priced corals?
no hes the only one tagging his name purely for profit for friends....
