Saltgator's 240 Build

After my 10+ inch rbta split, I decided to sell both half's since my picassos have the mag nem as home.
Smaller split.

Larger split.

During the holding of the last nem for my buddy, below is what you get with hungry fish trying to get 2 pieces of mysis. Btw, the holding cage is a XL critter cage I modded, the vlamingi is 6+ inches, and the regal is 5+ inches. :D

nice split.. and silly fishies.. likin' the Regal angel. :)

Thanks Marvin and school.

These 2 guys are still negotiating on second in command. My Colonel, a 4.5 inch black longnose tang is the boss, hence his name (Colonel), isn't falling for this, but watched these 2 just outside the holding area, probably shaking his head. I just left them in there and they both eventually made it out. Guess if I want great close-up pics like everyone, feeding them in the holding might work.:D

Finally some PE from my blue ridge. It's been frustrating figuring out my parameter issues, but finally had a break thru. Phosphates!!!!! A couple false readings kept me from believing it, but another test and some high capacity GFO does wonders.

I used to utilize my xenia for a visual test of the phosphates, but they never showed signs. Oh well, at least I'll stop loosing my SPS!

Update:
Purchased a couple items from a local that was breaking his system down, plus did a trade this week. I traded a 10+ head of duncan for a bonsai frag and a unknown blue tip green milli frag, I purchased a 8+ inch desera clam that has yellow polyps on 1 side along with 4 HUGE turbo snails (2+ inches each), a decent size colony of blue stag, a blueish (maybe red) milli, and 2 blue w/ orange tips (YES, Gator colors) yumas. Pics will come soon.

Since the start of my reefs, I had choosen to not go neck deep into anything just in case it all went haywire. Well after seeing my 1st (yep, my 1st) Vortech pump in person, I was floored!!! Maybe it was because it was a single MP60 in a 180, but WOW!! Now guess what, I'm looking at probally 2 MP40s for my DT. I realize that might be less than needed, but I will not mind hearing them (if at all) at 100% to get the job done, plus I have a few powerheads that could assist if needed. I would love 2 MP60s or 1 of each, but that's a bit more than this fella can dish out of pocket. Might just start by selling my RA+ controller to get the start of savings going.

Still enjoying the LEDs, even though I've considered returning to MH. The heat (in my fish room) was the main issue, along with bulb replacement. The electric cost haven't really been that much. The tricky part for me is finding the right hanging height. To high with a great look equals little PAR, to low and burn everything or nothings happy. I'm running them currently at about 6 inches off the surface. My halides were 12 inches off the surface (3 x 250) and never heated the water, only the room.

Been trying to figure out a my phospate situation this week. The BP are keeping the nitrates down, but the phospate just is relentless. The huge turbos I added earlier this week are mowing machines and have started making their way thru everything. I have probally 3/4 cup of HC GFO in a bag in the sump now for over a week, so we'll see what happens. The only issue I've come to believe is my source is it's leaching from the substrate and/or rocks. My RODI is 0, my frozen is rinsed, my skimmer is in overdrive, lights on for 10 hrs, decent flow, and switched salts to Red Sea Pro during my weekly WC. Probally going to try modding a old hang on skimmer into a reactor for the GFO this weekend.

All the fish (Scarface the black tang and boss, Big Boy the vlamingi, All Star the regal angel, Copper the CCB, Mr and Mrs Hobbit the picassos and Solo the melanurus wrasse) are doing great. Yeah, I named them. Might as well while I'm deciding on if more fish (wrasses and maybe 1 more tang) will go in there or I'm done. The regal and vlamingi I come to realize probally will never see eye to eye. No cuts or wounds, but they have a little tango each day. The CCB got involved the other day, which I thought was bad, but everyone stopped when he turned sideways and displayed it dorsal fins.

Anyway, just thought I'd update my thread with some info. Y'all take care

Pics as promised. Sorry, phone pics.

nice fish list already man. how about a harem of fairy wrasses?

hope the phosphate issue gets situated. I've been fighting cyano for a few weeks also. but that's because I stirred up the sand bed when I re aquascaped about a month ago. good luck to us. LoL. :)
