Kinda what I had imagined too. Wife just came in and said she thinks I have too many fish because they hide behind the rocks!!! Um... No!! LOL

:hammer:

that's what my wifey tells me too.

Well... here's the start of the process I ain't liking. My battle with ??(pretty sure it's dinos) starts tonight.

Just incase you missed it, here: https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/reef-aquarium-discussion/108769-algae-id-please.html#post1213607

1st dose is in, shot kinda low, only used 6mL on dose #1. 240 DT+55 Sump (25g roughly running)-100lbs of Marco Rock-60lbs of Tropic Eden substrate=105 Total. Started with 6ML (.5mL x 10g divided by 105= 52.5 on 1st dose, so I rounded to 6mL for 60g)<<<< Maybe I'm crazy, typing wrong, thinking too much, but I'll send ya this stuff and you'll do the same, LOL. Time will tell. If nothing happens, I'm going Skinz78 way, Vit C dosing and removing T.E. Thanks

What did you dose? Stop doing water changes, that fuels their fire. What salt mix are you using?

Switched from IO to red sea pro. I dosed h2o2. No vit c yet.

I recently (2 months ago) switched to the pro bag (200g I think). These dinos have been creeping up on me (as far as I can track back) since Nov. '12. I (I'm probally wrong), but I think it has to do with the pellet reactor. The pellets drove the Nitrates way down (zero) and the inbalance with PO4 caused this outbreak (came in on a frag I'm guessing). I haven't been treating for PO4, as I expected the pellets to drive them down. It's either this or the sand (only a cup or 2) that I used to seed the new sand (tropic eden) when I placed it in there. If it ain't one of those, I have the slightest idea. Chris, did you have any tangs (your sail prior to your loss, R.I.P.) or snails eating it? My 2 tangs, my angel and 4 HUGE turbos are eating eat, slowly, but it bounces back quicker than they can get to it. Also, how was your polyp extention on sps? I have little to any, plus my mag nem isn't happy either.

Alex, I appreciate your responce and thanks for looking.

I had my Sailfin but that was it. I have slowly came to realize that I didn't really have much of a clean up crew. I had a Melaranus Wrasse in there and I'm thinking he was eating everything. Just two days ago I removed him and added a bunch of red leg's, Astrea snails, and Nasarrus snails.

They won't eat the Dino's but will eat the HA. Dino's are caused by too high of silicates and until the dino's actually eat the silicates out they are gonna be there. Doing water changes actually adds more silicates.

Thanks bud. Well my guys must be eating HA then. I too don't have a clean up crew worth speaking of (4 Mexican turbos, 10 nerites, 3 blue leg hermits). Guess I need to follow your direction. My only wrasse (a melaranus) depleted the pods and bristle worms (they use to be so plentiful I could see them 24/7). So are you thinking sand change/removal or that and vitamin c?

It is and hopefully always will be my dream system (although I can give 1000 reasons for a larger system, LOL). I appreciate your time and if there's anything you'd like to know or need assistance on, please ask away.

Been some time on a update so here goes. The past weeks have been tough as I have considered (again) taking the DT down and completely starting over. I'm just getting tired of chasing numbers and issues. Last night I removed the RO 140 with biopellets. Since it's been up and running (Oct '12) I can't see any difference in numbers or DT condition using the pellets. My sole purpose for it was to be able to feed my fish as I see fit (making them fat) and keeping the numbers down. Well, imo, go back to the basics of keeping (WC and gfo if needed). Some of my corals are loving the water, some hate it. My brown button polyps have now been closed for 2+ months for an unknnown reason. Nothing has/is picking at them and they only open at night. Right next to them is yellow button polyps that refuse to close day or night. Some of my sps have a stn going on, some are growing like crazy (bonsai is growing every day almost). Mushrooms, xenia, and gsp have tried a small take over, so I have no clue why some coral have issues and some don't. Coraline has finally made me mad, lol. It will cover the back and side acrylic at a slow pace, but if I miss a day on the front panel, I can't keep up with it (8 feet makes for some tired shoulders). Reguardless, if it wasn't for my beautiful fish (yep, my regal and his buddies), I might have taken the DT down for some needed stress relief. Anyway, this is all for now, kinda my journal on my journey with this and more. Y'all take care.
