Sirius' Rimless Shallow Mixed Reef (Singapore)

I read multiple reviews stating that the readings are more accurate without the spoon. Probably that is why it is left out now.
Seems to be an accurate tester.

Thanks for sharing my friend! The box didn’t come with a spoon... so I was wondering if there was an error in the packaging at first. So thanks for clarifying! [emoji2]

Anyway here are some update shots

Here’s a red stag with a green base. I especially like how the polyps look like a pink with yellow center gonio up-close. Interesting [emoji4]

Funny, I have an inbound order from them too. I nearly bought one of those, but I already have the digital refractometer from Milwaukee, and while it's "good enough" I still double check with the regular refractometer. I think the Milwaukee has the same +/- degree of error as that icecap one. I do like the small size of that icecap one though.

I'm surprised they don't send the little "spoon" with it anymore?

Thanks for sharing @markstubb! Why do u still rely on the regular refractometer? I would reckon that is more prone to error compared to the digital ones from Milwaukee or Icecap. Hope u could share your reasons here! [emoji4]

Tank update:

Been busy the last week to post updates. But here’s one: I came back home past midnight on Monday night (10 Jul 0100H) to see that my tank had stopped running. [emoji46]

Turns out that the adapters I had used to plug for power from had burnt through, and as all my devices were connected to one single power socket, there was no electrical supply to the tank.

I found out through one of the timer switches that the power supply had stopped since 2100H, which meant a blackout period of about 4H. This was luckily a fortunate incident as it happened at night when the weather was not so hot here, and that not too long a time lapsed before I noticed the impending catastrophe. After I restored power to the tank, the temp was 27.2°c and I was lucky that no major coral or fish died (less one Sps that STN-ed) the next day.

This was a wake up call for proper electrical management and contingencies against all the valuable livestock we have. Hope no reefers follow my same foolish footsteps. [emoji846]

Wow. That fuse sure did a whole lot of good.

Similar incident here yesterday. I was leaving the house around 9:30a Saturday to head to Singapore for the night and as I walked out the door I got an alert from my ato pump. Opened the sump doors and the sump was way overfilled. Then I couldn’t connect to the apex and was worried about the skimmer overflowing. Long story short I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with my apex and just left for the airport hoping it’d survive the night. Came back today and it’s fine, but it seems the pump for my carx is dead, which I noticed after the alk level in the tank has been slowly dropping.

What a luck it was only the connector and you were there in time.
This is a 13Amps fuse so you would be good for a little over 2800 watts of power if all devices are connected to this one socket.
I have all devices over 2 sockets just to make sure it never reaches anything near the max power of the sockets or plugs.

Wow it seems all reef tanks will have to go through such trials and tribulations from time to time! Only thing we hope for is that we come out stronger smarter and better from each experience!

Glad for u that your tank came out fine in the end! [emoji4]

Yes Janci that’s what I’ve done too after this incident! I’ve now installed 4 sockets in the place of the burnt one, and altho they are all connected to the same CB the power supply is rated for a total of 20amps so I should be well fine and clear of any risk! [emoji28]

Anyway guys following this scare, I’ve installed an aquarium monitoring system. It was an eerie coincidence that I had decided to order this on the morning of the incident and to have my tank shut off 12 hours later.

Nevertheless, I’m happy to announce I’ve decided on the Apex! Hope it is as good as many have attested to!!

Like how neat and cool the packaging is!

Just for the record, the apex was installed officially on my tank on 11 Jul 18 (sorry I’m slow with updates!)

It’s a great tool, although I wish they’d create a good 220v EPB that shows current. I have had an Apex for many years. They are great, just don’t put all of your eggs into the Apex basket :-)

GHL powerbars show current for each socket.

Here's the delivery of my cabinet to my place!

They had to remove my door handle n shoe cabinet doors for it to fit through my main entrance. [emoji28] the width of the cabinet is 34"

Here's a picture after it came through! The tank will be situated in my balcony!

Love it!

I know but I’m not ready to dump my apex for the ghl. Too much time and $$ invested into it. I may have gotten a GHL had I of known better, but I honestly think they’re pretty similar at the end of the day. Fusion on the apex is pretty nice, but ghl is catching up in that department too.

I don't miss those things. We lived there for a few years and moved back to the states almost 2 years ago. I am still finding them in random drawers.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for all the sharing guys, keep’em coming!

Anyway took some photos just now to capture the size of these frags and compare them in a few months time.

My Sps colours have been slowly browning and I’m still trying to figure out why. But there are still many variables that could have caused it, so I’m trying to make changes slowly and hopefully with time they will stabilise and colour up more again (as long as they don’t die on me [emoji28][emoji28])

Sold to me and called Pink Lady. It has pink polyps.

This is a red polyped specimen I got from an Aussie shipment. Once again the red is not as obvious as it was few weeks back.

This is supposed to be a rainbow milli. I’m not sure if it’s a milli tho. Any experts able to advise? [emoji28]

Another piece I like. It is actually green and with a tinge of purplish pink. I don’t know what this Sps is so anyone who can ID it for me will be great [emoji6]

Rainbow loripes. Been with me for 6 weeks so far and luckily the colour for this has largely remained the same.
