So I figured I would share my last box of coral I got so people can see what stuff looks like and maybe some of the reefers who cant keep or haven’t had wild stuff can live through this thread for a moment. I have got lots of Bali and figi acros in the past which were great but since they are all not shipping for now I figured I would try an Aussie box. Why not fill the right half of my tank rather than buying 2 or 3 of the newest hot coral mini fragments?
I got it shipped straight over from Aussie, basically because I don’t care to pick what I get and the corals have not been shipped and tanked multiples of times over. I think this is why a lot of stuff I see in stores is always very pale and fragile. They came in really good condition concidering, and also sizes were nice along with the colony shapes were decent too. Another plus of not buying from vendors or wholesalers where stuff gets cut down. Colors were ok but a couple straight greens like always and two really nice ones.
A lot of people don’t buy wild or mariculture acropora because there is a ton of misinformation out there. I would like to get into all of that but maybe in another thread or later if it’s brought up again here. What I will say now is the countries that are mainly depending on mariculture and wild corals for their tanks certainly don’t have any of this misinformation going around between the reefers there. And these guys can grow corals with the best of us.
These pics were taken the mourning after they arrived with my phone. I am looking for species names on a few of these as well so if you know please post, and I will give a few my best guess.

First is Ssc and fourth is a valida. Fourth one is lorpies im pretty sure

The ones I need help with is 3,8 and 11. Number 11 looks kind of dull right now but I see some nice color in it, especially some blue polyps at the ends and the growth pattern is kinda cool and looks like a Deepwaterish Acro to me. Number 8 came in the worst but looks like it should make it ok and I am not sure what color it will be it’s so pale, maybe pink and green. Number 3 looks kind of stag like but the branches are very thin, my Aussie Formosa has branches over an inch thick so I am not sure what it is.

Here is one I forgot which is my third favorite. Again not sure what color it will be but thats the best part about these corals sometimes, the surprise :)
Defiantly looking for an id on this one too. Any of the guys out there in Australia think these look familiar?

Sorry the phone makes the branch tips on some of these pieces look a little too bright, I tried my best to correct them in PS while also making them look even a little less blue than they were.

Nice looking pack! So what’s your acclimation/QT process for these?

Here is one from a few months ago. I love these reefcrest acropora, and really enjoy how this one has blue corallites. It went through little stress a bit ago and hopefully will come around soon. They are a pretty tough species to get to grow good especially if they are stressed at any point. Just makes it even more worth it when they do well though and I wish more reefers were trying to keep these types of acropora.

Sde1500, I keep them in a 100g rubbermaid tub with two 400w radiums for now, I broke down all my tanks last year to make things simpler and am using this to collect and observe pieces until I can figure out what I am going to do for a display. I may just let things grow out in the tub if everything keeps doing well, it all depends on how much I feel like collecting. When I had a large system I found it easier to have a tank hooked up to the system that I put all new corals into. It wasn't a foolproof isolation tank but its a lot less stress on the corals. Plus the odds of something getting through are slim if its done right, its all about what is easiest for you and your situation. If you know what your looking for and have experience with pests there is no point in being paranoid about it, thats what ruins the hobby for me. Honestly I have seen almost all the pests come from vendors, reefers and even guys on these boards. It is rare that I actually see a pest come in on a wild or mari colony, unless its a pest snail or crab or algae, they are always there. I still like to treat the corals like they are infected until I know they aren't though.
The best part of having the rubbermaid is that I can't see inside unless I go with a viewer and I don't do that often. So I end up letting things sit which is most often the best thing for a reef. When I have a display I always feel the need to fiddle and move stuff all the time.

That's a good looking haul, looks like you may have a few really nice ones in there. 3 looks similar to A. Exquisita, 8 could be A. Nasuta, and 11 looks like A. Granulosa or Rosaria? Best of luck with them.

Yea there are a couple pretty good pieces, the greens kinda balance that out though :) Those are good guesses, kinda what I was thinking but I didn't think about exquisita for the branching green one, I will have to search based on that. Also need to look at the aussie granulose and rosaria pics, I am used to the indo pieces from thoes species. Its weird how certain ones look so different across the ocean, thanks for the post!

Wow those are all really nice. I wish I could order a box of acros from Aussie like that. Getting them shipped direct to you for the exporter has a real advantage and it shows in the health of the corals. Here in Phoenix Az Aussie sps come in very bleached out and getting them healthy and colorful again can be a real challenge.

Exactly, stores around here get them from wholesalers and pick their pieces and by the time they get them they are very white some even peeling. If your serious about getting some wild corals send me a pm and I can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing, comrade

Thanks guys! I hope everyone liked the pics, they are average 5-6” colonies but they call them 4” mediums I believe. Aussie acros are not cheap, it’s averages out to basically double what indo stuff cost. I can send you in the right direction for prices I just don’t want to advertise it here. I am glad there are still people that appreciate and keep wild stuff.
