@Humblefish... I received this Bimaculatus Anthia from Liveaquaria yesterday. I noticed that he has something on his back and possibly something on his lip. Flukes? Specifically the external white spot slightly in front of dorsal fin. (almost looks like a scale 1/2 attached). Also looks like something may be hanging off bottom lip. Any thoughts or suggestions. I was going to QT/Medicate with Randall's Anthia, ORA Splendid Dottyback, African McCosker's Wrasse. They are all eating frozen food well at this point. (Sorry my QT glass is a little dirty... Trying to keep stress low).

It's really hard to say. That could be a fluke (does it move?), or possible just a scrape or minor infection. Have you used any meds on him yet?

P.S. I moved your post into it's own thread to get more eyes on the issue.

My first thought is minor infection or injury. I would suggest vitamins in the food and extra care with water quality. wait and watch

It looks oval in shape. I dosed Prazipro tonight. I was not sure if these guys could handle a Fresh Water bath. I'll get some vitamins in the morning.

If it was a fluke, it should disappear soon after dosing Prazipro.

The spot is still there. The more I look at his lip it does look slightly injured so I am guessing his back maybe as well. Below is a couple better pics. I captured it fairly well in Slo-mo video the site does not seem to support it.

I think what you've got going on here (especially near the lip) is a slight bacterial infection. It's a judgement call whether to just food soak vitamins (to boost his immune system), or take a more aggressive approach by dosing antibiotics. If you choose the latter, I recommend Kanaplex as that is relatively mild and readily absorbable by a fish's skin.

This is also one of the few times I would recommend Melafix - a natural remedy and not a true medication. But I have found it to be useful for treating minor infections such as this. :)

Awesome. Thanks humblefish and mel. I have Melafix and I am heading to get some vitamins. I would like to continue Prazipro since its part of my QT program. Any concerns about making the infection worse or interacting with the Melafix?

I would probably wait 24 hrs after you first dosed Prazi, run carbon and then dose Melafix.

Melafix is just tea tree oil isnt it?

Yes, but it does seem to be useful as an immunity booster and the oil will coat the fish's skin. I've had some success recently using it to treat fish with minor infections, but I wouldn't trust it to treat anything significant.

Update: The white spot fell off after about 24 hours dosing Prazipro. (Not sure if it was related.) I moved the Anthias to another QT and started 7 days of Melafix yesterday. Lip is improving.

After a week his lip is better. I resumed Prazipro (see pic in schedule). I was traveling yesterday so I was not watching but when I got home last night he appears to have a large worm hanging. It's still there today. Will it fall out on its own?

I received a female BA today. I would like to keep her in the same QT as the male so she doesn't start to transition but obviously started treatment and he has had problems. I have a second QT getting as well for other new arrivals.

@Dreadnaught The white stringy poop means he has intestinal worms (new problem). Prazipro may or may not take care of this. Sometimes you have to treat with metronidazole (preferably by food soaking the medication) to treat for these.

The 2 Randell Anthia also have these worms. I purchased Metroplex and mixed it with their food. I fed them this mix last night and again this morning. I feed them 4-5 times a day. How many days should I feed it to them? Should I also dose the water as the Metroplex instructions recommends? Should I dose Prozipro again?

I usually only feed metroplex once a day.... it can take from 10 days to several weeks to get rid of stubborn parasites. You can run prazipro on time (5-7 days after the first dose)

Update: Treated Prazipro on 8/8, 8/13, 8/19... (Started noticing intestinal worms on 8/10). Treating with Metro in food on 8/10 and 1x day since (10 days). I stopping seeing white stringy poop on 8/15. How long should I continue Metro before starting Cu? Or should I continue Metro along with Cu?

Keep feeding it for another 5 days minimum. If bound to the food using focus, I dont see any reason you couldn't start copper now. Be sure to raise the levels of copper slowly.
