The storm is coming!!!!!!!

To all those looking for generators, may I offer a bit of advice. Last year at this time craigslist had thousands of overpriced generators. Not saying to buy those, but wait 1 day after storm, or a day after storm chaos, find and buy the generator on craigslist after the hype is gone. I get that will not help you currently for the storm, and I apologize for not offering any advice on that, but u can pick one up way cheap and practically new. As for me I own a 3500 watt generator. My price was $279 but they retailed for $300-350. It starts quick runs long and provides power. I live in suburbs of Phila 19006 and it rarely gets awful here but my complex loses power on random nights, hence my acquiring a generator.
Before the generator, when power went out I would siphon water threw a filter sock into bucket and then pour water aggresively bak in tank every 15-30 minutes. Microbacter 7 is a great product as well, some ppl dosed hydrogen peroxide. Also dont forget vortech sells battery backups. I have 3 powering each vortech. It may be overkill, but when I am not home and have access to my generator, I want flow constant. Thankfully when that happens though my reef angel emails me low voltage. Is all that overkill? NO I have 2 6 foot tanks plumbed together, besides $1000's in coral I also have life, my fish have been with me a long while and our part of the family. DO yourself a favor if you dont already have one, after the storm pick one up, they range from 100-300$ used and a week old

After this storm I intend to have a generator installed on the house. For the money I have invested in the aquarium, not having a generator is foolish.Just the peace of mind of having one is worth every penny even if I never use it.Thanks for the good advice and goodluck. It looks like your just down the road from me.

I dont even have the choice of a generator this time. Our neighborhood was just given a mandatory evacuation. I had to leave my tanks behind with no generator or battery back up. All I can do is hope for the best.

I had purchased a 20.000k whole house generator early this year for 6500 it was well worth the money considering I had more than that in the livestock in my tanks. We lost power in my area for several days do to a storm that had 80+ winds. probably the same storm as the one in Illinois. The problem I had is it was just sitting in my backyard at the time so I still couldn't use it .I how ever had previously made a solar powered battery backup which was able to keep the tank going till I got the generator running the next day It saved all my livestock. So I feel for you all, I know what it's like. Good luck to all of you.

Im really sorry to hear that. That has to be one of the worst possible feelings.Although Im sure you already know, the safety of you and your family are more important. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family, and your reef.

I wish you and your family the best of luck! I hope your tank makes it through this!

We have family over there as well, keeping them and everyone else in the storms path in my thoughts. Wishing for the best for everyone, and their tanks too of course! Stay safe you guys!

I'm still in an apartment complex so can't buy whole house generator yet, but want a whole house dual fuel generator. Natural gas for instant and a tank for when and if gas is shut off. Where you at spsjunky? And evacuation has to be just awful. Sorry good luck everyone I'm at work now waiting for later

good luck everyone!! I guess as long as it dosnt rain hard we will be all set here with 65mph winds, but if it rains hard it will push the 100+ winds down

I've got my tub full. My freezer packed with ice, canned food ready, a power inverter wired into my car for the tanks, and everything I own is charged. I hopee everyone is as prepaired as you can be. Be safe everyone.

Sorry to hear all these bad things being from the UK. Make sure you & your families are safe before your tanks :)

I lived on Long Island when hurrican Gloria hit back 1985 and we were without power for at least a week if I remember right.

Only thing I can add is that if you have a traditional hot water heater you can use it as an emergency drinking water reserve by draining it if you don't have running water. You can close off the water supply to your house too if it looks like source water will be contaminated.

Good luck to you all.

Im up in Nanticoke, right next to wilkes-barre/scranton.

Please, gather your family, pets, personal paperwork and get to safe ground if you are still able to do so.

From what I have seen on TV, the Jersey shore areas took a huge hit. AC boardwalk took a big hit. :(

The wind has really picked up here. Luckily, I still have power.

Pretty crazy, I'm lucky I still have power on my block. 3 houses down the next block over has lost power as well as everyone north of me so I see a wall of black when I look down the street. I think the other side may have as well. Wish all you the best of luck with the remainder

Looks like they are voluntary turning some of the power off up there to try to protect the infrastructure.I have my fingers crossed for ya.

Keeping all you guys (and your tanks of course) on the east coast in our thoughts/prayers! Stay safe!

We are getting 50 mph winds and tons of rain in Cleveland Ohio. I can only imagine how bad you guys are getting it, Stay Safe.
