To all those looking for generators, may I offer a bit of advice. Last year at this time craigslist had thousands of overpriced generators. Not saying to buy those, but wait 1 day after storm, or a day after storm chaos, find and buy the generator on craigslist after the hype is gone. I get that will not help you currently for the storm, and I apologize for not offering any advice on that, but u can pick one up way cheap and practically new. As for me I own a 3500 watt generator. My price was $279 but they retailed for $300-350. It starts quick runs long and provides power. I live in suburbs of Phila 19006 and it rarely gets awful here but my complex loses power on random nights, hence my acquiring a generator.
Before the generator, when power went out I would siphon water threw a filter sock into bucket and then pour water aggresively bak in tank every 15-30 minutes. Microbacter 7 is a great product as well, some ppl dosed hydrogen peroxide. Also dont forget vortech sells battery backups. I have 3 powering each vortech. It may be overkill, but when I am not home and have access to my generator, I want flow constant. Thankfully when that happens though my reef angel emails me low voltage. Is all that overkill? NO I have 2 6 foot tanks plumbed together, besides $1000's in coral I also have life, my fish have been with me a long while and our part of the family. DO yourself a favor if you dont already have one, after the storm pick one up, they range from 100-300$ used and a week old
