Over the summer, I had what Im pretty sure was velvet. I set up two QT tanks, got the fish out for 8 weeks and left it fishless. All fish in QT were treated with coppersafe at 2PPM for 4 weeks or so. I checked every other day, sometimes every day. All the fish went back in at the middle of October, from around mid august. Over the past few weeks, some of the fish developed what I think/thought was ICH. No, I m not sure. What I do know is, they have symptoms off an on for around three weeks. I know if it was velvet again, they would all be dead Im guessing. I really don't know anymore. I might try the bleach treatment tomorrow. I don't know what else to do.

Awwwwwwww, I am so sorry about all the issues you are having, I lost all my first set of fish to velvet and it was heartbreaking.

Can't do it anymore man. There is no reason why, if it is velvet, it should be in there again. Nothing goes in without being QT with proper copper levels. I just don't know if it's ICH. It's sad to say, but I'm praying it is.

I feel your pain. My fish have just went back in the tank after a fallow period of dealing with velvet. I lost a lot of fish. I real think the copper stresses them out and moving them to a big tank again, they are all jockeying for serpremise and getting stressed, not to mention being in a small qt tank for a long time. I also think I'm so worried of losing fish again so every spot is a worry for me.

250 gallon system. Tusk, black are the worst. The other two that are effected are the muciliceps tang and a snow bass. The black tang is the worst and does look like ICH. The tusk looks like ICH and velvet. Like I said, they've exhibited signs now for at least a few weeks.

I"m sorry for your troubles. Are you sure there has not been any cross contamination between tanks? What about introduction of inverts or corals without QT?

It's always possible. Right now in QT, I have three Fish. I have not yet dosed copper into and they have no signs of anything, aside from a missing scale I thought could have been something. I'm really at my wits end.

He had to remove all the fish again to treat and go fallow once again. Totally frustrating but it happens to the best of us sometimes. He got it all straightened out, but I know it wasn't something he enjoyed doing. It may be something as simple as that for you.

I would think so. I have seen a couple (out of hundreds) of reports of fish that developed a short term immunity from velvet. They eventually died from it, but they looked pretty bad off and on for awhile before that happened. Sometimes they don't look bad at all and only the new fish die from it. Of course, these people were not using a QT. I would lean toward ick given the data in this thread.

This is sad man . I read all your threads back to august when your problem was first identified. I agree with cross contamination. How is the black tang doing?

I just can't wrap my head around it anymore. It's a very bad case of ICH if it is.

If this was velvet, most likely they would be dead, looks like you had ich, maybe even ich and velvet before you put them through qt. 8 weeks fishless is enough to eradicate velvet, but not ich, and that's why you have ich in DT IMO. I believe 76 days needed fishless to eradicate ich. Sorry, feel your pain, but try to hang on, most of us know how you feel.

The issue then becomes why is it so bad and why have the exhibited spots for weeks now?

My guess is you almost had them whooped then you added back the fish then it took a while to fill back the water column with ich.

Because the tank wasnt fallow for 76 days. You missed it by almost 3 weeks. There was still ich in the DT
