Oh! Okay well there is not any yellow brown stuff mostly white? And there is some small spots but I mostly think that's from before when I had a refug and a small Protein skimmer in the same sump.

Running a skimmer will prevent a cyano outbreak though? @Pete polyp
I mean there's been huge changes to my tank in the last month haha so who knows what will happen.

Just tested Nitrate and there is already a change of color. I think its at 0.25 or a little lower. Maybe because I don't have that many corals in my tank? So it didn't get absorbed so fast?
Excessive carbon dosing is linked to cyano. If you run the biopellets without skimming all that carbon will be left in the tank and you'll have a nice blanket of cyano very quickly

I guess I can use a few corals for that experiment and see what happens in the next few months.

In your opinion, do you think this milli is "pale"?

It doesn't look bad. If you lowered alk the tips would color up. By looking at it you're not lacking enough nutrients to start dosing anything

I've read this but never had a cyano outbreak. Knock on wood. I did have around 5/3 the recommend dosage too. I'll see how it goes with just running the skimmer like I am now. Since I already see nitrates maybe I shouldn't turn it off completely.

And for the Red Sea PRO kit are you guys getting like small chunks after the 9min of waiting? Maybe I'm mixing it wrong, even with the clear instructions haha

it isnt "pale" ghostly but it isnt direct-colored.

i would raise nitrates 1-2ppm of current and blue up the light.

give it 2 weeks and then adjust how you like

Just tested nitrates again. This time a little better test. I got a reading of 2ppm to 3ppm already with a Dose of 35mL. My skimmer just kicked on for the night so going to test when I wake up in the morning again and see what changed. Going to leave my skimmer running since I just turned off Biopellets. If no change happens in 2 weeks then off goes the Skimmer.

Guess we are getting somewhere now
Maybe some results tomorrow! Haha jk

you will see results in 3 days.

however doc is different than nitrate or phosphate.

Probably. But it could take a while for the bacteria from the pellets to be skimmed out. Randy would be the person to ask.

I just upped my feedings, my sps were starting to pale out and my no3/po4s were zeroed for a couple months. 3 days into heavy feeding my corals started coloring up again.

doesnt take long.

Just got home and tested Nitrates again. Got a reading of 1-2ppm going to dose another 5mL and see where that takes me in a hour. Also probably going to buy the ULN Phosphate Hanna Checker because Ive been just using the Low range one

Tagging along with this thread, interesting read folks. Not to get a tangent going, but I have a couple questions. What is DOC? I've been doing some reading about zeovit, and the new Aquaforest methods. Thoughts about these very expensive and labor intensive systems? And do you guys run refugiums in your systems. I'm planning an 80gal dt, 40gal fuge, 30gal sump set up, thoughts? Thanks in advance for you comments.

DOC = dissolved organic carbon.
Zeovit is good, I would of went with Zeovit if I new more about it when I started my tank. BRS does an awesome job explaining it and I defiantly would of picked it. And now I have no room in sump for reactor so I decided not too. A little bit expensive but it has been shown to work. No clue on Aquaforest. But if you have the money for Zeovit I think its defiantly a good solution for pristine water (Because it has been shown to work).

Also, yes I had a refug in my tank a while. But wasn't using it for nutrien export was using it to feed live pods. Was planning on getting a mandarin so I had a fug in my middle compartment. Now I have a big skimmer. Refugiums are good for the right purposes, if your trying to use it as nutrient export I have read you need a body as big as your tank for "actual" export. Anything smaller is just a waste and will have little impact.

Tested Nitrates again got a reading of 1-2ppm again. So I dosed another 5mL. Will see where that takes me into the morning. Or might do another test before I go to bed will update if I do. SPS look a little better today polyps seem a little more out. Maybe its my mind playing a trick on me.

I did feed BRS coral food and Coral Frenzy today so maybe that was the reason. BTW I'm dosing Reef Energy A+B @Russ265 / @Pete polyp shouldn't have any negative effects right?
