Tips for quoting synergy ghost 16” overflow

Hey everyone,

Just got my tank setup. Anyway to quite the overflow?

What does turning the ball valve on the main drain line due? Or adjusting the height of the pipes in the back of the overflow box?

I'm assuming you're hearing waterfall noise from the internal box. You'll probably need to do both. Closing the valve will raise the water in the outer box. You need to raise the water in it which in turn raises the water in the internal box. Once you determine what the water level needs to be to prevent the noise then adjust your emergency pipe height to just above that.

Yes it’s a waterfall noise. I tried turning the valve to close it and it didn’t do anything? It raised the water level. I’ll try to posted a video and see if you can hear it. Waterfall/toilet noise.

On my Tideline overflow which is a very similar design I had to have the water about 1/2" from the top of the external box.

If the flow at the top of your tank is too much, you'll get the waterfall sound also. When my gyre pumps were too high, creating small waves, there was a waterfall sound.

Thanks I can try to adjust the water level and make it a little higher.

I can also move my MP40s down a little as there is a little wave at the top of the tank. Maybe that’s doing it?

So I moved my MP40s down...there’s still a little wave in the tank. I’m going for SPS tank so need the flow...

When I close the ball walve more on the main drain it just gurgles more?

Just double checking your sump didnt have a bulkhead type fitting of its own to connect to. Mine had one and the female inside the sump wasnt all the way tight and was creating a venturi allowing air into the main siphon. It added a lot of noise that I couldn't figure out for a couple days.

I have a bulkhead in my sump that the plumbing is connected to. I do not have the piece inside the sump glued. Do I need to?

So I can’t get a good picture of it.

I think the sound is coming from the internal overflow in the tank though.

The water level in the external chamber is about 2” from the top and when I pull the lid the bulkhead drains are almost submerged but not quite all the way.

Any thoughts?

I gave up on adjusting mine and used enkamat stuffed in the internal part of the overflow to quiet mine.

So, the internal box sits higher than the external. If the water in the external box is that low it's going to be at that same level in the internal box. That amount of space between the level of the weirs and the water level is going to cause the waterfall noise (hope that made sense). Make tiny adjustments to the valve to close it until the water level in the external box is about 1/2" from the top. You may need to replace the emergency drain pipe with one that's a little longer. I had to cut my emergency drain pipe so that it was 1/4" from the top of the box.

Me too...a couple of weeks ago I replaced it with an Exotic Marine overflow. Best thing I ever did. Thing is dead silent.
