Tips for quoting synergy ghost 16” overflow

If you see bubbles coming out of the main siphon (and its fully submerged in the overflow box) then its a venturi. If not, its likely water fall noise. I run my secondary drain about 1/2" from the water line and my E drain right at the water line. Keeps every really quiet, cant hear it at all.

Bad design in my view. Dropping the external box below the internal means you cannot get the water level high enough to eliminate the waterfall sound from the internal box without taking unsafe steps.

There should be a 1" difference in height between the main drain and the secondary. I cut a few different pieces until I found the right height (i forget what I ended up with?) for both. Also, you need a gate valve, if you're using a ball valve, then it will never run silent. I'm running 4 mp40's and my vectra m1 @ 55% (I use to run it @ 70% when running triton) and it's really quiet. My tank is in my living room, next to my couch and the only thing I hear are the fans from my lights.

So to answer some questions and some thoughts.

- I do have a gate valve sorry not ball valve on the main drain line.

- no matter where I turn the gate valve the water level will only rise so much. The more I close it the more water drains down through the 2nd drain line that’s higher? Is that normal? I’m only running like 500 gph right now through the tank...shouldn’t all of that be going down the main drain line and not the secondary one?

- now I am getting the water fall noise and also the gurgling or toilet flushing sound in the drain pipes.

- I do have small bubbles coming from the submerged drain lines in the sump.

- tank is in my basement and I can hear it upstairs!

- I also got the pipes from synergy pre cute. They do say you may have to adjust height but it should be in the ball park.

Are you talking about the pipes in the external part of the overflow? You are saying I need to raise the main drain and secondary drains by an inch each and then attach the U to them?

It’s hard to say where the bubbles are coming from but I do have bubbles for sure in the sump. Maybe it’s from the main drain line or secondary drain line? I cannot tell.

So I shut the gate valve all the way i. The main drain line. This still only puts the water in the external box about 1.5” from the top of it and I still hear the waterfall noise.

This did stop the washing machine or gurgling noise in the drain lines though. I still hear water running down but no gurgling.

The waterfall noise is the main issue I think. Do I need to cut longer pieces of pipe then for the external box to raise the water level? Or how do I raise the water level? The water in the external box has a wave to it as well just like the tank wave.

At the very least it will reduce the noise level a lot. When I raised mine 1 inch made a huge difference for noise.

Yeah, it's kinda a PITA to figure out what height works best for both drains. I think I made three different pieces, starting at 3" for the main drain, then made the next ones a 1/2" taller then the previous ones. Once you have a little flow coming out of the secondary drain, I mad micro adjustments to the gate valve (opening, not closing) until the bubbles cleared up. You have to give it a minute or so to settle before adjusting again. If you're still getting noise from above, then raise the stand pipes by a 1/2" (each) and see what that does? Good luck!

Yes I cut my pipes larger then attached the u pipe I tried several different lengths and found they definatly need to be longer than recommended to get the water higher than the 2 holes that are threw the tank

Should you have any flow going through the secondary drain? I seem to have a decent amount likely because the gate valve is closed quite a bit to get the water level up

How much taller should the secondary drain be compared to the main drain line? 1/2” or more like an 1”?

Yes a decent amount should be going down the secondary juat not enough to cause a chugging sound

I ended up cutting my emergency drain pipe to about 1/4 - 1/2" from the top of the external box.

How much of a height different should there be between the main drain and secondary drains?

Crazy thing is I’m only running like 440 gph through the tank now. Have flow sensors hooked up to each return.

Just enough so the main siphon dosen't suck air. I would say anything over 3 inches or so is a good measure to shoot for. On my bean animal I leave the main drain With no stand pipe.

Could this by why my display tank hasn’t cleared yet?

I haven’t turned the skimmer on since I dosed Fritz turbo start 900 Sunday morning and it says to keep Skimmer off for 5 days after...but i though the water would be more clear by now?

There are defiantly bubbles.
