Tips for quoting synergy ghost 16” overflow

You have to open the primary valve slowly and only to the point that the water level stays at the height of the secondary. That may mean that the valve is only partly open.
 
Hmmm...I always do herbie overflows. I had the one main drain and two emergency overflows so not sure how to make adjustments for your actual set up. :-(
 
If the bubbles are coming out of the main siphon and the air isn't coming from the overflow then i'm leaning towards a venturi somewhere. Make sure your connections at the sump are all tight. Mine used a slip to male into a female to slip to create the bulkhead and the threads weren't tight and air was being sucked in through there creating a similar sound.
 
I have another idea for you to try. Pull the U bend off the secondary and raise the remaining stand pipe so it is about 1/2” lower than the emergency. Then slowly open the primary valve until there is just a trickle going down the secondary but nothing down the emergency.

The bubbles you are seeing is because there’s a lot of water going down the secondary.
 
Looking at your video the only noise I can hear is from the wave pumps. I don't have this particular system, I made my own, but the concept revolves around the bean animal design.

I have complete access to the back of my tank so to hopefully help you understand, I just uploaded a video for you.

I have a Vectra L1 running at 100% and it is completely silent except for the surface agitation in the display.

So I notice that the "full siphon" also has a breather hole on the top... I'm curious as to why they Incorporated that into the design. I would guess that it helps purge the full siphon. Any one willing to comment on that?

Looks like that's where the bubbles are coming from...
 
I think what's happening is your wavemakers are throwing a wave into the box temporarily allowing air into your main siphon. Is there air coming out of your primary siphon drain (one with the gate valve)?
 
So, I think most of my flow is going down the secondary line...could this be the issue of where the bubbles are coming from?

When I open the gate valve enough for the flow to go down the primary it makes a gurgling or toilet bowl flushing type noise.

I agree with the last post about the MP40s maybe making a wave in the tank causing a wave in the overflow box. Maybe I should try switching them on a different setting? Like the high flow they provide now for the further sps tank I will have, but I think they may be part of the problem.

I will try this for sure. Won’t the gate valve have to be open quite a bit to get the majority of water down the main and barely any down the secondary?

I think like someone pointed out the MP40s are making a wave in the tank and in the external box so the water level fluctuates in the external box. This has to be an issue too?

Could the hole in the top of the U be an issue too? Both the main and secondary U’s have these holes in them?

So my bulkheads are slip x slip in the sump. Where the drain connects to the sump/bulkhead it’s glued. The only part that is not glued is the piece of pipe from the bulkhead in the sump that goes under water at a 45 degree angle.

Most of the bubbles now are from the secondary drain line.
 
So...I **** the MP40s off...this is the video! Much more quite!


So it must be the MP40s making a wave noise.

But now when I turn the 3 MP40s back on the wave noise comes back!!

Not sure what to set the MPs at to get high flow but no wave? It makes them water level fluctuate in the external box too which is annoying.
 
Is 420 gph enough to create a full siphon in a 1.5" Schedule 40 PVC? If not, wouldn't that create air pockets?


If the height fluctuates, what about having the second pipe taller with a cut to the height that you have it now.
 
So I can get it dead silent with the MP40s off...when I turn them on I get a fluctuating water level in the external box?!?! This makes a water fall noise or when it goes down the secondary drain a flushing sound.

I need the MP40s for flow...not sure what setting to put them on?

Shouldn’t be this sensitive...I mean most people have more flow than I do and don’t seem to have this problem! Any wave in the tank cause a wave in the external box!
 

This is what I’m talking about with the fluctuation in water level.

I tried moving the MPs down in the tank too and that didn’t help?

Having a rolling wave in a reef tank is mostly overrated anyhow. Move the vortech down and run them on reef rest mode with one anti sync to the other. That’ll give you a stable water surface and better overflow performance.

I have 3 MP40s on the left side and 2 on the right. Maybe I’ll move one all the way down on the right to keep detritus off the bottom. Then run the other 2 like you said?
 
Really try this ---> Make the second pipe 5 mm taller than the one that works now with a cut to the height that you have the second pipe now.
