Tomini tang spot?

So this morning he’s swimming and eating normally but now he’s only using one fin he’s not using the spotty side

Nope same dark color as yesterday

It's probably the start of a bacterial infection or an injury.

Bristle tooth tangs are rather hard to diagnose sometimes.

I would give the fish a 90 minute bath in Ruby Reef Rally as a preventative measure and keep a close eye on it.

If it becomes red/white or begins to look like an open sore then you may need to move to a QT and medicate.
This. In the photos I already feel it necessary to use antibiotics. I’d use metroplex, furan 2, and kanaplex in QT for 10-14 days.

Would my local store carry all of those I know they have the Duran 2

Alright I just ordered those 3 medications. Use them all at the same time?

Yes all three of them at the same time per the instructions for each. Following the WC schedule on the furan-2 package.

Awesome thank you I’ll have the products tomorrow currently getting water for my qt tank now. How do you guys recommend doing it so that the good bacteria is still in the tank just take from display? Or should I maybe take one of the filter sponges from my sump and put it in the qt?

There won't be enough bacteria in the water to make a difference, a sponge will help, but the best thing to get is a bottle or two of biospira. The abx will be hard on the biofilter and adding a bottled bacteria will keep ammonia in check. I add a little bit every day

Agree, biospira is a must with a newly set up QT!

I’m not sure about the best way to handle the bacteria issue but I think because you’ll be doing water changes w/the med regimen it will help alleviate to some degree the bacteria/cycle issue - many hospital/qt it’s not possible to cycle because they are often needed in an acute situation.

Is he using that fin any more than he was? I’m following along, I have a Tomini tang and he’s my favorite fish, so much personality. They are quite hardy, mine took a carpet dive last week and scared the life out of me but he didn’t suffer any serious injury and other than a scrape on his noggin he never slowed down. Mine is very easily startled and does not like new people all up in his face, I would recommend to the extent possible that you provide him something to hide in or behind while you are treating him as he will likely feel exposed/stressed which won’t help his recovery.

Best of luck with your guy and please update us as you are able.

Okay thanks guys I’ll have it all set up tonight. How often should I do water changes and how much of a water change do you recommend

Just use the water change schedule on the Furan-2 instructions

Yeah I’ll be sure to keep checking them what should I do if they did end up raising. Obviously got to get him out of there but what would be the next step

You won't need to take him out, you can use prime if you need to, it will bind ammonia and make it safe long enough to get clean water mixed up. If you add a little biospira each day it should keep everything safe though and you likely won't need to worry about it but still keep an eye on it. Try to keep at least 10 gallons of clean saltwater all the time incase you do need to do an emergency water change

Ok thanks guys at work right now and my wife said he can’t even swim now so it’s not looking good right now she’s trying to set up the qt tank with the medication we got it in the mail he’s really black now she says and he’s just laying at the bottom of the tank now
