Trident vs Alkatronic vs KH Director vs kh guardian

Calibration just completed and every single number is SPOT on to the solution.

Ok so now this is where things start to get interesting. Pre-calibration everything was great. Did the calibration everything match exactly to the calibration fluid. Perfect.

So did a combined test just to see where it would measure after calibration and dKH isn't right now. Magnesium is fine.

Gonna give it some more test, but do not think there was anything done wrong with the calibration at all with every single number matching exactly.

Calcium is also off about 40ppm as well.

Will let it run test on schedule and check again later.

Alkatronic dKH is on point as I expected. I trust it so much I only verify when I make a change like prime pumps, add reagent, etc.

Kind of a decent difference at 0.6dKH. I'll be more comfortable with something like at +/- 0.2 at most.

Any standards to compare against the calibration fluid?

Nope and wasn't really worried to much about that particular part of the comparison with the unit coming back with ever single number matching exactly to the calibration fluid. Heck the purpose of the calibration fluid is to measure the fluid that is in the container and see if it matches that fluid; some how it did perfectly. But after numbers are lower than expected on both dKH and Ca.

Another test got better calcium results and magnesium has dropped 18ppm.

Well I’ve decided and bought the kh director
You gonna like it. I been working with ghl over the last month switching my system to profilux 4 controller. I am very impressed so far. The controller the dosers the probs all really good and stable so far.
Will get the khd soon for sure...

I’m doing it the other way around , going kh director then going for the profilux 4 lol

You will.
The nice thing about them is they give you both stand alone and none stand alone functions. So you can do it the way you did now as an example..start with one then move upwards ha ha.

@mitch91175 If you have time and the bottle still has enough fluid you could run the calibration solution through the hanna or alkatronic as well. If I get some time later I'll see if I can find the fudge factor resolutions for the various kits on the market.

Might make the .6 difference seem like a knife's edge! :confused:

By the time I got home the calibration solution was definitely thick. I would trust the results that I did get from it. Just gonna roll with the measurements I have now until next time to calibrate.

I do not own a trident but the general note or tip I have seen so far is that after you run the calibration use the left over with another kit and compare. May help give indication if there is a issue and the source. But I also understand that fluid is only good for so long.

Yes it definitely is only good for so long. Right now I am happy with the measurements that I am getting from the Trident. Will see in a few months how everything pans out.
 
I just got my Trident installed. Setup was easy, especially when you are forced to do the checklist and watch the tutorial videos in the app. It took me about 2 hrs to setup only because I decided to clean up and re-arrange my sump area (but the actual Trident setup was less than 30 mins). My wife (who is not tech savvy) could set this up. I love it so far. I cannot confirm the accuracy yet as I'm waiting to calibrate (after the initial 48 hrs waiting period). Also, I don't think it's loud, but I do have 2 overflows and a air purifier in the room that make the most noises.

My only cons so far are the product feels cheap (but looks sleek) and you cannot customize the testing times. While inserting the reagent tray, the display above it popped out. Maybe this is intentional to make the product open and serviceable. Also, I had to change my 2-Part dosing schedule so that it didn't fall right on the times the Trident ran. I would like to customize the testing times.

I think for someone who wants a really simple plug-and-play testing tool - the Trident is great, but time will tell.

Oh, couldn't help but compare these latest value (specially calcium - knew it isn't right - is actually ~ 460ppm)

I wonder how much more drift will happen by time when all these peristaltic tubings start wearing out. Especially since the recommendations is to do maintenance at 18 months.
None of the peristaltic pumps I have used so far can survive more than a year. Tubings wear out between 9 to 12 months which degrade accuracy of dosing. If an equipment depend on the accuracy of dosing to run amy type of calculations like what kh testers do, this effect the teater accuracy
Time will tell.

Guess it really comes down to which is correct. Might have to send in an ICP test to try to confirm (not that I am wanting to do that even).
