oh ya thats all they had then lolCrushed coral. Lol

When you get a chance i be interested in what you have learned and explain what your doing and how it works. If you dont mind leaving it here. ThanksTank has been running for 2 years now. Had Paul B give me some pointers
It was different back then the crushed corals pieces were pretty large grain sized compared to todays sand....not if you go reverse flow. Blow water out of the sand not suck it inCrushed coral is still the main substrate used in reef tanks. Not sure what joke is about.
I used UGFs back in the day. They kept FO tanks crystal clear. At a cost.
The problem with them is they are massive nitrate factories. They pull deitrus into your substrate and then help it decay by putting a flow of water through it. Instant nitrate. Running in reverse doesn't help unless you can filter deitrus first. I used to save the water in FW tanks because the nitrate levels made it fantastic fertilizer for plants
Filter sponges are used now mainly with FO. By keeping them clean you greatly reduce the nitrate issue. Ironically airstone driven UFGs moved less water than power heads and had fewer issues.
