X2 that's velvet and significant gill damage... get him in copper ASAP. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make it, I would freshwater dip this fish for immediate relief but it's probably too late. The lack of a stomach is not good either, looks like he hasn't eaten in weeks
He ate yesterday actually and the day before that. He went from looking normal to this in like 4 days. Well that's a bummer hopefully he's not to far along to the point where I can't save him because he's a beautiful fish. As far as a freshwater dip goes I've never done one. I've read a couple how to' s but I'm afraid it'll only make things worse if I do it and mess up
If the fish dies during a dip it's because it had no hope anyway. Match the temperature exactly, and if you have araga milk to increase ph a hair it won't hurt. If not I would still do it.
, I sincerely hope I'm wrong. I would do a dip to give him some instant relief. The fish could certainly die during but IMO this fish is going to die anyway. 4 days in velvet is a death sentence.
Ok I just filled my salt water change with fresh rodi. No salt water was in it I used it all when I did my change this afternoon so it's straight rodi. I'll plug my heater in tomorrow morning and let it heat during the day as I have to work all day tomorrow. I'll grab some copper and hope for the best
I would boil water and do it tonight-- the fish is definitely not going to make it 24 hours, or if it does it will definitely be too far gone. Add some boiled water to get the temp close, little bits at a time.
How many other fish do you have? Personally (I learned this the hard way) once you treat this tang, I would treat the others as well and wait several weeks before adding another fish to your system. That was the only way after my loses that it worked out for me.
Well I did the dip the way this how to said to. I cut it to 3 minutes because he wasn't moving at all in the water just laying there. He perked up for a bit after I put back in the tank and is swimming unlike he was like 10 minutes ago. Breath is kind of quick and is hiding between 2 pieces of little rock I have in the tank
I hope so. Just did the dip 15 minutes ago and just and watched him. Before he was just pressed up against the live rock i have in there and after he was actually swimming between those 2 rocks. He's hid behind it now and still swimming a little hopefully he makes it through the night. If so I'm going to help him as best I can. Should I keep doing freshwater dips throughout this treatment and if so how often.
I know far more about Ich than I do velvet so I don't know if continued dips are needed. I'm certain @Humblefish and @4FordFamily will chime soon. Most importantly just get that copper treatment up to the therapeutic level asap.
