Vitamin C dosing for zoanthids (I am clueless)

was dosing bout 1/8 tsp started 1/4 tsp this week. water volume is about 28 g

bruno, I'd back off to 1/4 tsp, blow all that crap off your stuff & do a 30 percent WC. Unless you remove the excess metabolites that are being produced by the bacterial bloom, which is being fed by the VC, it will become a problem. Generally a skimmer will do this. Why not get a small skimmer on there? I ran a Backpac on my 15g frag tank.

I am having the same problem. My system is about 50g and I have a cpr bakpak. I backed off my doses to 1/2tsp and my skimmer is just filling up with very clear stuff. I did about a 10g water change yesterday. Do u have any suggestions?

My tank is growing slimey clear stuff and the water is cloudy. No ill affects, but i really want it to clear up. Should i stop dosing?

You need to set your skimmer up higher, to skim thicker. If your tank is coudy, you are bumping up the doage too fast. Back off, do a WC & start again at 1/2 dose.

I have since raised it up and stopped dosing for now until tank clears. I have also done a few water changes. It seems to be clearing up slowly. My z&p look ok but sps dont

Yes I have some slime on my glass and pump, and I think that is why my gorgonians don't like it so much. They shed skin quite a bit to get rid of that slime so that is obviously why they are not happy. I cut down a bit on the dosing and they open a lot more now. I am also starting to see improvement on my zoanthids. All my zoanthids are improving and I see quite a bit less of them shrinking. I have also noticed that the small bit of cyano that I had in my sand is gone now. Nitrates are very low at less than 2ppm (just a trace). I am dosing it via my dosing pump and I mix it just enough for 4 days and refill every 4 days. Seem to work for me that way.

Dosing in this way is only giving you viable VC for the 1st dosing. VC is completely broken down in water, within 8 hours.

Not really no, it does not degrade that fast and it still work that way as my zoanthids are doing well still.
If you have any credible source about vitamin C being non effective after 8 hours, beside the numerous threads where people keep repeating this (that's how myth survive) then please show it to me. I could not find any reference saying so, in fact I found the other way around, that vitamin C does degrade but it takes much longer than 8 hours, more like a few weeks. It is degraded by oxygen and light and by heat to a certain degree.
I can understand that vitamin C degrade in 8 hours in the aquarium especially during the day with the lights on and with all the micro-organism and bacterias present, but not really in the dark in a relatively air tight closed container and with RO/DI pure water.

Although I started dosing VC for about a year before I found this article, here is the originator of the VC dosing: Vitamin C
I have tried countless times to contact the author but he never writes back & his site doesn't seem to have anyone on it.

Started dosing VC about 3 months ago after reading this article with some increased color and growth from my Z & P's, nothing to major as if when I started spot feeding them but I do have to say I like the coloration more on some of the colonie's. Maybe after a longer dosing period I will see more of a change but only time will tell.

I started at 5ppm for the first month and then moved up to 10ppm the second month, I am now at 15ppm and monitoring very closely, I have gotten good coloration out of some of my higher end zoas that were a little faded along with some nice coloration from a chili pepper monti frag that fell in the sand and was dying. Since it will be 4 months next week I will try 20ppm dosing and take it from there.

How about your other corals? Fish? I find it to be especially beneficial to my healthy LPS.

I have seen my clown's ripped fins heal pretty fast, and I have seen good coloration out of my goni and also some other sps, and also out of my rbta. So I do believe it is doing something since that is the only new thing I have been doing to my tank.
