Vitamin C dosing for zoanthids (I am clueless)

What a great read. . . I have read several threads on this topic on various forums but this one is well done. The fact that the OP is still so involved this far into the life of this thread is impressive. Thanks for starting and supporting this. That being said I have yet to jump in with both feet. One reason is that I dont run a skimmer on my tank. I have been using an ATS set up that I made(with great results). I have seen several posts that seem to insinuate that hair algae doesnt grow well with this method. Is anyone on here using an ATS while dosing? Would like to hear anyones results and opinions on this.

I noticed after I started with dosing vitamin C my alkalinity shot up it is possible??

What form of VC are you using?

I think VC does more for my chalices than any other coral!

Then no, it is buffered to a pH of 7.1. If anything it would lower alkalinity but it shouldn't. I have been dosing at ~23ppm for 4 years.

I am really starting to see improvement in my zoanthids. They are much stronger and much less prone to shriveling and shrinking. One of my gorgonian is practically dead though and it did not open since I started VC dosing, like for one month!...none ov my photosynthetic gorgonian appreciate the VC. The 2 others seem to have adjusted but one will obviously not. Seem that the biofilm that VC dosing is what is bothering it, not sure. It cover my glass and pumps, so maybe I am dosing too much? dosing 2000 mg in 75 gallons tank once a day. Is that too much? I have noticed that nitrates are undetectible now. Algae growth is reduced.

From the formula PufferPunk posted that does seem a little too much to start out with, a little over 5ppm and starting out too fast will result in issue's. Any typ of dosing should be monitored and done very slowly at first so you do not shock your live stock. I would reduce it down based on the calculation and keep an eye on it. Once it is under control you will start seeing the result's become even more apparent in a couple of month's =)

I will try that. I did a bit of brusing yesterday and some part of it opened today so it seem it's not dead after all.

Every different form or carbon dosing feeds a different species of bacteria, so you should be fine. Just keep an eye on the parameters for a while.
