Vitamin C dosing for zoanthids (I am clueless)

I hear vitamin C does make polyps bigger. Is it true that if I put zoas that are used to vitamin C water that they won't open in water that doesn't have vitamin C?

I've been using the unbuffered stuff and just add ph buffer to the powder. My zoas are huge. Also my skimmer goes crazy. I only add once a day.

I've been using the Vitamarin-C from brightwells, when you add it it's almost and orange color. I've noticed an excellent response from my SPS. Not sure if it's the carbon dosing part or the vitamin C doing something.

I should also note it seemed to jump-start the encrusted of a millie frag that's been doing absolutely nothing for about 7 months.

i saw some vit C in powder form at a local place.the back said vitamin c as a ascorbic acid,is this ok to dose?

I have a net-100g system, mixed reef. I'm NOT running a skimmer, only an algae scrubber and an intensely lit refugium, with Purigen and carbon being the only chemical filtration. Would I have any issues with dosing this? From what I've seen, start with a lower dose and work up to the 'normal' dose and cut back if you see anything crazy happen.

I had the most success with R.O.E and Oyster Feast.... They love it... I actually scaled back my skimming in the tank with zoos..... It helped a little.....On for a day, off for three.... Also, I use Goniopower!!! But turn tank off totally for 20 min when you use it

ok so i wanna start dosing vitamin c and was going to order [h=1]NutriBiotic, Ascorbic Acid, Crystalline Powder, 16 oz (454 g)[/h]so i have a 60 cube with a 10 gallon sump no skimmer its a zoa dominated tank and want better color and growth alot of high ends what pointers do i need thanks

I have a 30Gallon tank with a 10gallon sump and I have been dosing 1/4teaspoon twice a day for nearly a month now. Since I have started dosing, almost all of my zoas have been popping new polyps off. Most are getting 1 new polyp roughly every two days I'd say. Works unbelieveable. I dose once in the morning in the display tank when the lights are out and once at night in the sump just before the lights go out.

It is suggested that we not use the C in tablet form. Too many fillers to deal with & it is not buffered, meaning it affects your pH & Alk. On the other hand--I used the tabs for about 3 months, before buying the pure, buffered VC. I'm sure the Walmart brand isn't any different than the Sam's Club brand I used. (Personally, I boycot Walmart though, because of their fishkeeping ppractices.)

I got the costco brand in tablet form(1000 mg) for my zoas and it has rose hips and citrus Bioflavonoids is either of these ingredients bad? My dosage is 500 mg as i have a 29 gallon tank. I did a 250 mg dose to see if either of those ingredients will harm my corals.

help is appriciated

Yes, it is bad. Not only does this product have a pH or 4 but it has a bunch of crap in it to make it stay in pill form, Rose hips (who knows what that does to your tank...) & you'd need a ton of them to dose what's recommended.
Please read: VITAMIN C DOSING CHART
Here are the directions:

NutriBiotic, Sodium Ascorbate, Crystalline Powder, 16 oz (454 g) - iHerb.com FREE SHIPPING!!!

To figure out how much to use, decide if you want to simply improve coral growth, spread, and color. If so, then you should dose around 5 ppm twice daily (down to 2-3 ppm works also). If you are having problems with coral or fish health, dose up to around 30 ppm twice daily.

Calculate the total net number of gallons in your tank (minus rocks, sand, etc). Enter that number here ______.

You will now need to do a little math. The amounts below are for 100 gallons of water so if you have 50 net gallons, cut the amounts shown below in half etc.

Dosing amounts using I-herb product:
1/4 tsp=1112 mg.

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC

After you have figured out how much you want to dose at each dosing, enter that number here _____. This is your dose to be used twice a day.

Notes:
*Be sure your pH and alk are within normal reef limits before starting. Adjust if needed. Monitor weekly.
*Shoot for a ppm of around 5 or lower if only dosing for improved coral growth, coloration, and spread, also for better health/coloration of your fish. Shoot for higher amounts up to 30 ppm if you are having melting zoas or closed zoas and look for the causes of your problems as you dose. Higher doses of as much as 100ppm (for about 2 weeks) for fish illness. Check for high nitrates, pests, zoa pox, predators, and unstable water conditions.
*Dose low amounts and increase the amount slowly over the course of a few days to a couple weeks.
* If you notice an algae bloom (white stringy stuff) or increased scum on your glass then cut back by half until it disappears.
* Watch your skimmer, it will start to skim more.
* Dose the amount twice a day in a fast moving area of your sump or overflow. You may dilute the vitamin c in ro/di water then pour into overflow. If adding to sump, try and add the vitamin c after filtration such as skimmers and reactors. *Keep your Vitamin C bottle in the refrigerator. * If you have a question, ask here. I do my best to check these threads daily.
* The instructions in this guide and throughout this thread are based on using pure Sodium Ascorbate, not vitamin c pills and other non-buffered forms of vitamin c.

Be sure to take some "before" pics!

Will an iodine dip help the zoas any,and I cant get any of the iherb stuff over here they don't ship to hawaii.

can it just be pure vitamin c in powder form from the vitamin shoppe?
Yes, if you can get it buffered in the form of sodium ascorbate, calcium ascorbste or magnesium ascorbate. Any of those work well.
You could do a hydrogen peroxide dip: 3-1 dilution with water for 5 minutes, in case they are being attacked by a bacterial infection.
Do you have a protein skimmer?

What's actually going on with your zoas? Pic?
