What are you using for circulation?

I've seen many threads started about recommendations for circulation pump. Thought this would be a good thread to start and give people some sound advice about water circulation. List what your using and why your using it, AC vs DC, controllability, etc.

I've elected to go with Ecotech Marine Vortechs. I have a MP-40WQD and 2x MP-10WQD pumps in my take for circulation. I run the MP-10s @ 60% and the MP-40 @ 40%. I control these pumps on alternating times through my APEX controller, so 40 is at peak and 10s are at minimum. The control I have through the APEX is the primary reason I went with the Ecotech's.
What's your story?
Thx

Two gyre 130' and a mp40 qd down about 2/3 in the center to mix it up in the bottom. I use the reef link for the mp40 and raising the funds for a new controller to the gyre's

I've got a MaxSpect Gyre 150 on the right side, and a Jecod on the left, both set to alternating "tidal" flow. They're not synced, so at any given moment they may be both in the weaker "turbulent flow" mode, both in the stronger "linear flow" mode, or one in each mode. Both pumps change mode every few hours throughout the day and night, so the currents do change up four different ways. I'll be porting these over to the upgrade, probably in the same modes.

Vectra L1 as return. Neptune wav x2 for in tank circulation. 265 gallon tank. 7'x2'x2.5'

I am running 1-mp40 right now. Was debating on adding an mp10. However, I just set up not too long ago and have no fish or corals yet. I am going to wait to see if one 40 is enough before adding another.

I will be using (4) MP40's and a Gyre to start on my new 8ft tank.

Am using 2 RW15 and hooked up my fx5 with nothing inside for more circulation with chemipure blue inside on my 180 gallon tank.. the RW15 are good pumps but I had to dial them down alot bc they blow all my sand around leaving my sand parted. [emoji30]

I am using 2 Tunze 6055, 2 Tunze 6095, and a Gyre 150, on a 150g. I like the ability the Tunzes give me to direct the flow where needed. I run the Gyre opposite the Tunzes thru Apex. Coarls seems to like the washing machine effect several times a day.

On my 33 long DT, there are two Eheim 1250 return pumps running about 250 gph apiece. Additionally, a Tunze DC return pump sends about 300 gph into a Mr Aqua 12 L (Fuge) which sits up above and gravity feeds into the DT.

The 33 long DT has two Apex controlled Tunze 6040s down low on the rear walls about 8" from sides, that run anywhere from 40 to 90 % during the day and at 40% for night-night.

A Tunze 6208 wavebox creates a 1" wave during the day and shuts down as the sun sets. Up high in in the corner behind the wavebox, a Tunze 6020 runs 24/7, preventing a dead spot in the general vicinity below and around the wavebox.

Back up in the Fuge, a Sicce Nano sits high in the corner pumping 530 gph against the current of the inflow of the Tunze DC return pump during the daytime only.

For a few months a Jecod CP-25 crossflow was in the rear of the DT (wouldn't fit anywhere else) running in addition to all of the aforementioned pumps, but after my first maintenance tear down of the CP-25, the PITA factor of reassembly along with other concerns lead to its reassignment in a FW 75 gallon planted tank.

I'm looking to check out the new XF230 (maybe two of them) real soon as I found the gyre flow patterns to be unbeatable.

The waves made by the 6208 are stellar as well and seems to truly stimulate PE and other natural behavioral responses, but the real estate sacrifice in a 33 long is the price you pay.

As you can probably guess, I like my beats fast and my tanks with flow...
